The Future of Technology Lies in its Past: Upcycling for a Better Tomorrow

"Donating old technology is not just a charitable act, it is a necessary step towards bridging the digital divide and empowering people with access to informaiton and knowledge." - Jean-Francois Rischard

In today's fast-paced world, technology advances at a rapid pace. New gadgets and equipment are released every day, and as a result, old computers, phones, and other electronics become obsolete. While this may seem like a problem, it is also an opportunity to give back to the community and bridge the technology divide.

Many organizations and non-profits focus on providing technology to those in need, but often they lack the necessary resources to do so. This is where IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) companies like Synetic Technologies come in. They specialize in recovering old technology and finding a purpose for it. This purpose can be anything from donating it to non-profit organizations, upcycling it for reuse, or recycling it in an environmentally friendly manner.

Through the efforts of Synetic Technologies, old technology that would have otherwise been thrown away can be given a new life. This helps those who are without access to technology, bridging the digital divide, and making it easier for organizations to do their philanthropic work.

Two non-profit organizations that work towards providing technology to those in need are:

  1. World Computer Exchange - They refurbish donated computers and send them to schools, community centers, and other organizations in developing countries.
  2. TechSoup - They work with more than 60 technology companies to provide donated or discounted software, hardware, and services to non-profits, schools, and libraries around the world.

Here are five sources that provide more information about recycling, upcycling, and donating old technology:

  1. Synetic Technologies
  2. Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI)
  3. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  4. TechSoup
  5. World Computer Exchange
