ReCode: Tell me about yourself – what made you choose ReCode for your internship??

Jessica: I am Jessica Martinez, a rising junior at UChicago studying Biochemistry and Applied Mathematics. I chose ReCode for an internship because of their commitment to develop treatments for rare diseases and their innovative culture.

ReCode: What’s your role and what current project(s) are you working on?

Jessica: I’m a Bioanalytical intern, and my current project focuses on determining the organ biodistribution of novel LNPs in rats. This research helps understand how these particles behave in biological systems, which could lead to advancements in treatment delivery.

ReCode: What’s your favorite aspect of working at ReCode?

Jessica: My favorite aspect of working at ReCode is the people. Everyone here is deeply enthusiastic about their work. They are not only great mentors and leaders but also very welcoming and supportive.


ReCode: Which one of ReCode’s core values do you resonate with the most and why

Jessica: The ReCode value that resonates most with me is "Solve Together." I’ve seen firsthand how the company’s progress is driven by extensive collaboration among teams. The support and teamwork from my impressive colleagues have been integral to my experience here since day one.

ReCode: Can you share an impactful and/or memorable moment you’ve made at ReCode?

Jessica: One impactful memory was when my manager shared that ReCode’s leadership was very satisfied with the results from several LNPs I had worked on. Knowing that my contributions are valued and will help drive future developments was incredibly motivating.

ReCode: What about your role was most surprising to you, and what lesson(s) can you draw from it?

Jessica: I was surprised by the versatility of my role. My team develops and performs assays for various other teams at ReCode, and I never imagined the diversity of projects we would be involved in. This has taught me the importance of adaptability and collaboration in scientific research.


ReCode: How is ReCode supporting your career goals?

Jessica: ReCode is shaping me into a future leader in science. My internship has provided me with important technical skills, and it has allowed me to explore different career paths with the guidance of experienced mentors.


ReCode: What knowledge/skills have you learned from your internship experience, and how will you apply it in your future??

Jessica: I have learned to take a different approach to data analysis, and I hope to apply the critical thinking process I have learned in future scientific research and decision making.??

ReCode: Do you have any advice for future ReCode interns? Jessica: Don’t be afraid to ask questions about anything you’re curious about. Also, actively seek out and take advantage of the learning opportunities across different areas of ReCode.
