The future of spectrum - the UK's SPF meetings
Last week, I attended the Plenary of the UK Spectrum Policy Forum. The meeting, which is for all members to attend, summarised all the work that's happening as part of the SPF. The world of spectrum looks very promising. Much fascinating economics work needs to happen in the coming years for the most to be made of it.
Even if it might be fascinating, all the economics looks a way off - first, much needs to happen involving the engineering of spectrum uses. The SPF Plenary summarised some of what's going on. It includes the creation of a National Spectrum Centre in Aberystwyth, Wales,, to help develop new approaches and solutions involving spectrum. A comment got made at the start of this segment that what happens in Aberystwyth stays in Aberystwyth. Let's certainly hope not!
As progress gets made on the engineering and the incentive issues become more obvious, I feel the work for economists will really start to happen. I look forward to those days very much.
