in your company.

The future of work is focused on prioritizing employee skills. Find out why this trend has become the key factor for competitiveness among companies.

Technological changes and the growth of digital access, remote work, Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and many other trends are increasingly transforming the ways in which we relate to each other, ways of consuming and, above all, professions.

The World Economic Forum 's Future of Jobs 2023 report estimates that around 23% of jobs have changed by 2027, with 69 million new jobs and 83 million eliminated.

But how to keep up with this pace at a time when technical skills are scarce?

Establishing a culture that prioritizes skills has been the key to filling gaps and remaining competitive.

For companies, the skills-first mindset means a more robust talent pipeline, as it broadens the range of candidates to be considered for positions. In addition, it reduces turnover rates, contributing to talent retention, as employees who can use their skills become more motivated to perform tasks.

7 steps to establish a skills-first mindset in your company

Based on the World Economic Forum report, there are seven steps that make up the framework for a skills-first approach:

  1. Identify current and future skill gaps and map them to job assignments.
  2. Articulate skills needs in job descriptions, seek to leverage and recognize innovative skills assessment methods.
  3. Try to co-develop and co-deliver skills-based training programs.
  4. Drive lifelong learning and access to competency-based learning opportunities.
  5. Create skill-based paths for development and redeployment.
  6. Adopt the skills-first culture, policies, and mindset.
  7. Adopt a common skills language.

The secret to a skills-first culture

Developing the habit of lifelong learning among employees can be challenging. After all, you deal directly with other people's motivation and learning ability.

With a game-based learning methodology, 83% of professionals feel more motivated to learn, in addition to other benefits, such as improved relationships between teams, higher engagement rates and talent retention.

Given this scenario, since 2017, the Startup Mundi gamified simulation trains teams from different backgrounds with the main skills desired by large companies for the future of work, such as innovation, intrapreneurship, decision-making and lean startup mindset:

After the Startup Mundi dynamic, the immediate impact was the reduction of resistance on the part of people. The game helped us a lot to understand that there is indeed the possibility of dealing with a promising startup and, understanding the other side, we started to have a more fruitful relationship.” - Rodrigo Carlana, Technological Entrepreneurship Coordinator at Embraer.

Watch the video to see how our dynamics have contributed to the upskilling programs of large companies, such as Accenture and Pagonxt | The Santander Company.
