When I started my Journey as QA Professional in late 2002 ; Software Testing Life Cycle was different in all aspects. Automation was newly started and mostly limited to UI level. Companies had been invested on expensive Automation Testing Tools to save time , reduce manual efforts , reduce repeat test cases execution etc... and tried to improve performance of software systems by doing performance testing. Eventually Testing has been moved on from traditional functional way to Non Functional way. like Automation or performance to Agile based testing to DevQAOps. Software architecture includes majorly Security , Performance , Compatibility on different devices / Browsers / Operating systems / Cloud platforms / Databases so on and so forth...Then I was thinking what will be Future of QA/Testing going forward. I have been working on different aspects of continues testing which I thought why not share within people and collect few comments/feedbacks/suggestions.
Now a days ; There are many different tools and technology are coming in market. I have been hearing / reading of new tool in market almost alternate days. No doubt it really becoming more an more challenging to find , evaluate , select correct tools for testing and use it optimistically against requirement. There are so many questions arise when looking at testing trend in last few years . Here are few General Questions every company or individual more or less ask to themselves.
- What Tools or Technology Testers should learn?
- What domain he/she should learn / concentrate so that their job will remain secure?
- What kind of software testing skill sets should companies look for while recruiting testers in market?
- What kind of testing training testing department should give to their existing testing employees? .
- Will they be still remain Testers or shall we start calling them Developer Tester or How can we change tester's skill sets / mindset to become a developer tester OR SDET, (Software Development Engineer in Test) ?
Undoubtedly these are more or less are challenges in front of Leaders / Management. The way how I look / break it keeping basic testing fundamental in place are as below.
- Hire Quality Testers who can plan , execute , maintain , improve software quality. has larger view of software life cycle , domain , has testers mindset / QA attitude.
- Don't focus only on any specific Tools or Technology rather learn , understand , train team on various trends from Testing prospective. Train testers on how to add automation , how to take innovative approach and convert to large / bigger innovation.
- New trends like DevOps , Microservices , AI , ML , Cloud are dominating the market and need of industry to move fast with quality. Quality has become integral part of the entire software life cycle.
- New QA Trends are introduced in Industry. Train employees on Continues Testing , Microservices based Testing , API Testing , Mobile Testing , Cloud Testing , AI / ML / DL Testing etc...
- Ask employee to get well verse with either one of programing languages like Java , .NET , Python , Ruby , Go , Angular , Node etc...
- There are many more areas going forward ; however this is very basic to move to next level of testing . I also tried to explain this on few slides as below.

What I believe is the FUTURE OF QA/TESTING which is no more call only testing but DIGITAL TESTING.
