THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND GLOBAL HEALTH SECURITY…The People Need to Know Ann Marie Kimball, MD, MPH

This past week I was honored to present to “Open Mic Science” here on Bainbridge. My topic was “What you need to know about the next pandemic”. Our urgent task as “experts ?and “scientists” is to prepare our communities for days ahead. Our respiratory disease season continues, apace, ?the threat of H5N1 icnreases everyday. The incoming administration has threatened to leave the World Health Organization on “Day one”. The nominee for Secretary of HHS is a vaccine skeptic.

?One of the most powerful things we can do, as scientists, is to inform the public now about the risk in the days ahead of us. This means community fora, editorials in the press and talking to friends and family. It is time to amplify the information flow to our fellow citizens who are outside the scope of academic scientific discussion.

?In that spirit I am sharing the video of my talk, and the sheet of sources of information I provided to the audience. Please feel free to use any of these materials ( with attribution ) as you bring the message to towns and cities across our country.? My fellow Bainbridge Islanders have been very appreciative and kind in their comments. Your feedback to me is welcome as well.

?The video is an hour long, so here? is a guide to topics covered to save you time.

Ann Marie Kimball, a great and timely post. Now that Trump has removed us from the WHO again (amongst other day-one executive actions), we will be more hampered in knowing what is going on and helping to eradicate illnesses as they appear.

Hi Ann Marie!! Let’s hope Trump will not be idiotic enough to remove the US from WHO as he threatened the last time that US voters were foolish enough to elect him as President - his proposed Cabinet members and the majority members of the US Congress are too weak to oppose such a decision…it’s going to be a very dangerous four years ahead!
