Future Proofing Electrode Materials Handling

Handling electrode materials during EV battery production involves five key issues. We can help you minimise potential problems in these areas for future iterations of the factory:

Contamination: Electrode materials must be kept free from impurities to ensure optimal battery performance. Even small amounts of moisture or foreign particles can significantly impact battery efficiency and lifespan.

Moisture Sensitivity: Many electrode materials, particularly those used in lithium-ion batteries, are hygroscopic and can react with moisture, leading to degradation or reduced electrochemical performance.

Safety Hazards: Some materials, like lithium or certain solvents, can pose safety risks such as flammability or toxicity. Proper handling and storage protocols are essential to minimize risks.

Particle Size and Distribution: The physical characteristics of electrode materials, including particle size and distribution, affect the electrochemical performance. Consistent handling practices are crucial to maintaining these characteristics.

Storage Conditions: Electrode materials often require specific temperature and humidity conditions during storage to prevent degradation and ensure stability.

Addressing these five issues during materials handling is essential for producing high-performance, reliable EV batteries.

When planning materials handling solutions for our clients all of the above need to be taken into account.? The system also needs to be flexible as there are likely to be many changes in electrode chemistry, capacity throughput, recycling, political factors, financial restraints, and more.

Come talk to our engineers about electrode materials handling at the Battery Show in Detroit next week (7-10 October 2024). Visit us at Booth #122
