Are B-Schools Obsolete for Today's Youth?

Many believe the "baby boomer" generation created a system prioritizing money and prestige over purpose and experience. This raises a question: are Business Schools (B-Schools) and traditional education still relevant for Gen Z?


Gen Z: Different Priorities, Different Needs

Gen Z, raised on technology and social connection, prioritizes purpose and experiences over possessions and titles. They value collaboration, question authority, and crave work that makes a positive impact. Their learning styles are also unique, leaning towards interactive, visual, and technology-based methods. Millennials shared some of these preferences but were held back by past generations' influence.


The Rise of AI and the Need for New Skills

Technology, like Artificial Intelligence (AI), will change the job market. While some jobs might disappear, new opportunities will arise for individuals with creativity, critical thinking, and emotional and spiritual intelligence. So, how can B-Schools adapt to educate future leaders for a world driven by AI, collaboration, and spiritual awareness?


The Future of Education: Collaboration and Purpose

The future of business, and ultimately the world, doesn't lie in cutthroat competition. It lies in collaborative innovation driven by ethical practices and a focus on shared prosperity. Gen Z, with their tech skills, social conscience, and desire for purpose, is perfectly positioned to lead this change.


But they need an education system that empowers them and:

  • Values both profits and human/planetary well-being.
  • Is taught by experienced leaders who have faced challenges.
  • Focuses on developing the whole person, not just job skills.

Formal education might not be the only answer. Many valuable lessons come from real-world experiences. For example, some skills might be better learned through apprenticeships or internships.
