The Future of Podcasts

JAR SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

At JAR, we endeavour to stay at the forefront of podcast marketing and technology. One question we are always exploring is, how do you attract new and younger listeners without alienating your current audience? Every day, brands are asking us to decipher the nebulous listening habits of Gen Z, who clearly have an appetite for podcasts as their listenership has consistently been on the rise year over year!?

According to SXM Media and Edison Research, 43% of Gen Z listeners ages 16 and above have purchased a product after hearing a podcast ad; one in three have asked someone to buy a product for them after hearing it advertised in a podcast.?

What have we been saying all along?! Brands need to be podcasting!

However, capturing the attention of those younger listeners is increasingly difficult. There have been endless discussions about where to find those new audiences. Should you podcast on YouTube? Maybe TikTok??

No. Ditching the RSS Feed to Capture Gen Z

So, how do you get younger listeners? In the last year, we at JAR have spent nearly 4 million dollars on generation and demographic analysts, trying to answer that very question. We also believe that sometimes you can’t trust expensive research and you just have to go with that sick feeling in your gut. The answer is clear. Streaming is dead.

As of April 1st, 2024 - JAR will no longer be distributing podcasts via RSS feed.?

We are excited to announce!

CassetteCast is a brand new bi-weekly tape delivery service to enjoy a few of your favorite shows! $4.99 per episode, one episode per tape, all on single-use “biodegradable” cassettes! It has been known for decades that Gen Z loves pop culture nostalgia. According to Luminate data, cassette sales from semi-famous pop acts such as Harry Styles and Taylor Swift, have seen a 443% increase in US sales since 2015. 443 is a big number! We believe you need to meet your audience where they are and we’re pretty sure this is where they are going to be. BONUS: Older listeners are already familiar with this tech.?

We can already hear the skeptics saying “How can you fit a 6 hour podcast on a 40 minute tape?” It’s simple - you can’t!

CassetteCast tapes are 400% larger to allow for even the most boringest of history podcasts to fit. Now, the naysayers will be thinking “That doesn’t make any sense! That won’t fit in a regular cassette player…”?

…and they’d be correct! Introducing

The CassetteCastR One and CassetteCastR PRO are the only players that will work with our proprietary CassetteCast tapes. Packed full of hip-retro coolness. Wow!

CassetteCastR One?
