The future is PASSWORDLESS
What's the biggest challenge with passwords? It's our inability to remember complex strings. And the need to remember too many of them. Gone are the days when people remembered 100 phone numbers.
So what's the point in recommending a password like $#2i6$a2B^ ? No one's going to remember it, let alone use it. Even if you force them to, what will they do? They'll write it on sticky notes and place it on their monitor.
Passwords are now officially the weakest form of authentication.
In today's world, they can easily be guessed. It's a combination of your/your kid's nickname + a birth year + one special character (which is usually * or @ or $ or #). And you already published all this info on you social media account.
Password management tools are also going to be a thing of the past, in 5 years.
So what's going to be the future? Multi Factor Authentication sans passwords? Modern world is already moving to combinations of OTP /App Push Notifications + Biometric.
The market for Passwordless Authentication is estimated to be at $14B+ in 2023.
The word 'Passwordless' is still flagged by spellcheckers. Won't be the case in no time. :-)
