Our Zero Emissions (ZE) team at PLM is a dedicated group of uniquely talented individuals with the hands-on experience required to introduce and bring to the road effective ZE TRUs (Transport Refrigeration Units). Our team of experts conduct an on-site evaluation to determine where the equipment and charging stations should be set up and installed. This is based on an analysis of the warehouse operations, loading docks, parking areas, and equipment staging lots, while keeping in mind the site’s future growth. We will be fully involved throughout the process of recommending the best suited ZE TRU equipment, training the drivers and distribution teams, monitoring the effectiveness of the units, and making adjustments during ZE usage based on their unique business needs.

PLM manages multiple customer sites that rent and lease ZE TRUs. Our expert team monitors the performance of the units for the entire route. No equipment is leased from PLM without being equipped with our telematics, so we can continuously monitor progress. Then our team can recommend adjustments based on the results. Furthermore, if a repair is needed, we facilitate the process of expediting getting the equipment back on the road.

One of our customers had a preconception that they could not use ZE trailers for long routes. Through data and trial runs, we demonstrated that they could utilize the trailers at a set point of greater than 33° and return with sufficient battery life, even if their driver had a layover. The customer can now run the ZE equipment between Northern and Southern California, a route with typically over 6 hours of travel time.

We are known for our hands-on style. For example, we work with a top distribution provider in the US, they embraced ZE technology early, although no one on their team had experience with operating the equipment. We would visit the warehouse every day sometimes at night, to understand how the trailers were being loaded, if the temperature was set, and the bulkheads properly loaded. He acted as an intermediary between the warehouse and transportation departments, which typically have different managers and priorities. At this account, we trained 3 diverse groups of warehouse and transportation staff. Much of the training involved changing mindsets to accept EV technology. These trainings, always with an emphasis on industry best practices, resulted in more effective use of refrigerated trailers, both EV and diesel.
