The future of nonprofits going into 2023 - How the current state of the economy can effect giving?

As we prepare for the new year with the current state of the job market & our economy nonprofits are facing challenges that may prevent them from operating in 2023. With jobs being cut and funding resources becoming scarce the future of nonprofits presents itself with an anxious outlook.

It is difficult to predict the exact future of nonprofits, as it will depend on a variety of factors such as economic conditions, societal needs, and the actions and decisions of individual nonprofit organizations. However, here are a few trends and developments that may shape the future of the nonprofit sector:

  1. Increased focus on data and evaluation: Nonprofits are increasingly being asked to demonstrate the impact of their work, and data and evaluation can help them do so. This trend is likely to continue as funders and donors increasingly prioritize evidence-based approaches.
  2. Greater collaboration and partnerships: Nonprofits may increasingly look to collaborate with other organizations, including other nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies, in order to achieve their goals more efficiently and effectively.
  3. Technology and digital transformation: Nonprofits are likely to continue adopting new technologies and digital tools to improve their operations, reach more people, and better engage with their stakeholders.
  4. Diversification of funding sources: Nonprofits may look to diversify their funding sources to become less reliant on any one source of income, such as grants or donations. This could include generating revenue through earned income streams or social enterprise ventures.
  5. Greater emphasis on sustainability: Nonprofits may increasingly prioritize sustainability in their operations and programs, in order to have a greater long-term impact and to address pressing global challenges such as climate change.

As we work to continue the cycle of giving, the mission to give takes a village. Not just nonprofit leaders, volunteers, donors it will take the entire community to continue the great fight of changing lives and empowering one another. To get involved and do your part in the community, do some local research to find local nonprofits in your community who is doing some great work and find a way to support. Whether that's monetary, volunteering, joining the team do your part and don't look for change be the change.
