Is the future nearly here?

Is the future nearly here?

Autonomous cars, there is so much talk at the moment surrounding connected and autonomous cars being the future. Are they? I'm not too sure.

Autonomous cars, although a breakthrough is it really life changing, sure they don’t have a driver ( my mum needs one of these, now!) but is that it? Is that all there capable of? Is that really our end goal?

Growing up with movies such as Tron and Minority Report and working with some of the most influential companies in this space right now I can tell you NOPE not by a long shot are we done.

The biggest problem we have currently isn’t the transport it’s the infrastructure. Honestly, this is going somewhere!

Our infrastructure although perfectly adequate in years gone by isn’t capable of keeping up with the current direction transport is heading.

Like the Dodo the way we interact with our existing infrastructure is soon to be a thing of the past only referenced by our generation in night-time stories to our grandkids “back when I was kid…..”.

So what does the future look like?

To me, the future will be when our Cars, Trains, Motorbikes, Ships and Planes interact entirely with not just the users but with their surroundings. An autonomous/connected car fully integrating with the world around it, now that is life changing that’s the FUTURE!

Vehicle to Infrastructure and Vehicle to Vehicle communication will change the way our whole infrastructure works as we know it, allowing transport to reach its full potential. Imagine, the world with no speed cameras, traffics lights, traffic jams or traffic collisions.

Sure there nothing better than getting on my 90’s Motorcycle with limited to no tech and just being at peace with an open road. The wind in my hair (Insert Topgun Soundtrack).

BUT and this is a massive BUT, should we live in the past, or should we embrace the technical advances we've made in such a small time and take a leap of faith.

What does your future look like?

Brilliant little thought piece. I loved my 1986 Skoda drop top, but I'd rather it be a weekend toy rather than my daily drive. I'd much prefer to be in the iRobot Audi for my daily commute. ??
