The Future of Medicine is Bright

Over the past several months, I have had the privilege of attending a medical school graduation, several medical society meetings, and an academic basic research weekly lab meeting.?

In each case I have spoken to and listened to discussions on basic, translation and clinical presentations from medical and doctoral students, postdoctoral trainees and medical doctors in residence and fellowship training.?

I was energized by the creativity, tenacity, insight and eloquence of the presenters and the subsequent discussions of their findings.?

These meetings were FUN!

The presenters were excited!

The attendees were engaged and actively contributing.

And science moved forward; new ideas, better perspectives and advancement of innovation!

Isn’t this what it is all about??

I came away from all of these interactions with the following takeaways:?

Innovation is about people and ideas.

Innovation is driven by interpersonal engagement in intense, respectful discussion and challenging preconceived notions.

The importance of curiosity, tenacity and courage are the foundation of scientific and medical advancement.?

Fortified by this mindset and passion, I know we will continue to discover and develop new insights and approaches to reduce suffering and improve the quality of healthcare.?

I am so pleased to be a part of this continued and accelerating tide of discovery and innovation and look forward to helping so many better, fuller lives.?

Bring on the future; it is positive and bright.
