The Future of LNG Exports from British Columbia, Canada

Here in British Columbia (BC) Canada, there are various LNG projects going on and often get ignored by public of their potentials once they will go into production or exports. I have therefore put together a brief about LNG development in BC Canada.

The beautiful province of British Columbia (BC) is poised to become a significant player in the global LNG (liquefied natural gas) market, with several key projects in various stages of development. These projects promise to bring substantial economic benefits to the province and its residents.

Key LNG Projects in BC

  1. LNG Canada: Located in Kitimat. This projected is owned & partnered by Shell, PETRONAS, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, KOGAS. The Project estimated Cost for this Phase 1 is approximately CAD $40 billion. The timeline is expected to start exports by mid-2025. Its Capacity is 14 mtpa from the first two trains. This project is set to be one of the largest private-sector investments in Canadian history, creating thousands of jobs during construction and hundreds of permanent positions.
  2. Cedar LNG: This project is also located in Kitimat and owned/partnered by Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation. Project cost is approximately USD $4 billion. Timeline for targeted operational is for late 2028. Its capacity is 3.3 mtpa. As the world's first Indigenous majority-owned LNG project, Cedar LNG will provide significant economic opportunities for the Haisla Nation and the broader region, including job creation and training programs.
  3. Woodfibre LNG: Location: This is located near Squamish. Its developer is Pacific Oil & Gas Limited. The Project Cost is approximately USD $5.1 billion. Per timeline, it is expected to begin exports by 2027. Its capacity is 2.1 mtpa. This project will contribute to local employment and economic growth, with a focus on minimizing environmental impact through the use of electric drive technology.
  4. Ksi Lisims LNG: Location: Located in Northern end of Pearse Island, this project is owned & partnered by Nisg?a’a Nation, Rockies LNG Limited Partnership and Western LNG LLC. Its projected caplital cost is approximately USD $10 billion. It's projected to start exports by 2030. Capacity: 12 mtpa. This floating LNG plant will enhance economic development for the Nisg?a’a Nation and create numerous job opportunities.

Very informative. However on global level, till when Canada can cross Qattar, US and or Russia being largest LNG exporter of FY 2022 & 2023…
