The Future of Learning Experience

Ever since the pandemic, the way learners interact with educators, learning materials and peers has changed remarkably and it does not seem like learners would ever look behind as we all entered the era of digital technology.

There was a time when learners had no option but to visit schools/ colleges/ offices to attend classes/lectures/ training but today this whole experience has been replaced by a learning management system(LMS) which is a software specifically designed by educators to eliminate themself from teaching in the growing trends of digitalization and digitization.

Having the incredible capability to perform administrative tasks which certainly daunt educators at the same time connect them with learners at an emotional level has been taken away. Things like documentation, tracking, and reporting are at the fingertips which easily quantify the learning path of the learners but at the cost of how data will decide the capability and interest of learners in the learning experience.

On the contrary, when learning is full of fun designed to keep comfort, safety, the customized pace at which learners would like to learn, then there is no way to look behind but it is worth looking into the future and how the changing landscape of the learning experience will define economies of the future.

Emerging trends

Every other day we see new developments in generative AI and surprise us with a few questions

Oh ! wow. Is it really possible with generative AI?

Well, its answer is yes, Generative AI is real and has high potential to replace/ save the years-long spending/savings, the learning experience of a learner but there will be after-effects as well as any technology built on philosophy: To improve human life humans need to sacrifice.

There is no doubt with growing artificial intelligence, LMS will touch its peak capabilities and enhance students’ digital learning experience more artificially in the coming years. As we look into the future, today’s learning institutions will turn into so-called museums that our future generation will visit occasionally to see how their ancestors used to learn in a classroom setting.

How emerging trends will change education?

1. Losing educators

As we advance in generative AI-based LMS, the needs of educators will diminish over time and will be taken over by generative AI professors who will standardize the learning experience across the nations as if producing robots to run the economy of nations.

Here the biggest loss will be the real-time customized styles of educators who often make their classrooms/ lecture halls a multi-interactive fun place to learn and grow together. The learners will miss the great stories of our educators which not only keep them motivated to perform well in academics but encourage them to live life with integrity.

Can we still remember our favorite professors? Will we lose them in the trending dust of generative AI?

2. Gain and loss at cost of integrity

Losing integrity will be challenging to recover in the trending era of generative AI but surely blows off the relationship between educators and children. The first visible sign would be a lack of integrity due to a lack of human interaction thinking capability and dependence on generative AI during early child brain development. Certainly, it will hold them to be responsible citizens, therefore impacting the economies and characteristics of the nations.

There is no doubt that generative AI will be a billion times smarter and high performer when it comes to performing job tasks but human life is not all about completing the tough or easy tasks but beyond that. The pleasure of learning from humans and being with humans is a beautiful exchange of emotional and social values that defines the characteristics of children and thus nations. In the short term, generative AI is surely going to help improve the delivery of education but in the long run, it will impact the experience of education and its outcome.

Would short-term gain worry you over long-term loss? Will emotional belonging diminish over time as our foundations will be built on generative AI for generative AI?

3. Empty classes

Delivery of the education system will directly impact schools/colleges and universities’ infrastructure as we already starting to notice the changing nature of work preferences among Gen-Zs and millennials. The authenticity of century-old facilities will turn into ghost towns as technology is capable enough to change human behavior, therefore susceptible to losing its heritage in the coming years.

Already real estate industry is changing empty offices into residential buildings but now the question is

Can we do the same with schools/colleges and university buildings if not what would be the future of these vibrant classes/ campuses?

4. Chat GPT is my best buddy

When it comes to assignments/ research papers/ coding etc. learners will surely won’t feel daunted as their best buddy is there to help them. Life is really good for learners when it comes to submissions but they need to be careful that everyone’s work should not look alike as if it is copied all together. It sounds funny but sooner it will hold the creative thinking capability of the learner. It is a grave concern for any nation that visions to be the leading economy of the world therefore the policymakers of the future need to ask

Can generative AI manage its plagiarism? what will be its standard?

Well, time will tell how generative AI will manage plagiarism but it is certainly sure learners will lose their cognitive thinking capability, therefore in the coming years, governments will trust more on generative AI than their citizens as their decision-makers will be exposed to their best buddies.

5. Rise of instructional designers, learning experience designers

The ones who used to be educators will lose their jobs but there is another hope for them to switch their career pathway towards instructional and learning experience design.

This new emerging trend will not only be limited to educational institutions but also attract government organizations and technology companies. Looking into the current job market, a substantial number of employers hiring instructional designers, and learning experience designers/specialists to create LMS to engage mainly K12/ Gen-Z and millennials. The organizations will considerably rely upon people from educational backgrounds to make their LMS the best in the industry to lift their bottom lines but would the generative AI learning experience help to improve the cognitive thinking of the learner or push them into the darkness?

Isn’t it a new opportunity for educators and learners? what do you think?

Finally, we will be responsible for what we choose and what we will become. There will be nobody to blame for what we will be tomorrow and tomorrow will look behind the past and embrace what we are today, After all, we all deserve evolution and see the future ahead of us.
