Future Leadership

Where is the direction of leadership today? Many would say that leadership has changed, and some perceive that leadership is now needed more than ever. Why is this a significant issue in professional development but more importantly, why is leadership in the state that it's at? For myself, leadership has played a substantial role in the direction of my purpose. Since retirement from the military, I have seen firsthand the good and bad of leadership and its consequences. My leadership research is based on behavior, direction, skill, education, and intention. As a leadership Coach and Trainer, I have been asked what leadership direction is in the future. Here are the four leadership skills that leaders will need to lead in the future.

1.?????The leader needs to understand and have an innovative attitude towards change: Change happens daily, directly, or indirectly. Leaders today perceive that change will alter their business for the worst. Embracing change will embrace your vision. You must maintain an optimistic mindset as things around you are in chaos. Followers need a leader that embraces change and provides a practical, positive solution in the face of change.

2.?????Transparency is everything. Without it, there is no trust: When leadership is not transparent, the behavior and mindset of the team shift to uncertainty. Future leaders must be more transparent, consistent, and genuine, regardless of what is happening in this ever-changing world. Trust is lost when leadership fails to be accurate and precise. Simple.

3.?????Embrace and appreciate diversity: Diversity in today's workforce plays a significant role in the professional development of all positions. Leaders need to be dialed in when the word diversity approaches them. Diversity in the workplace can offer a plethora of benefits to your company. Why? Because variety produced mixed results. Different backgrounds provide expertise and knowledge. Embrace diversity and value as a leader.

4.?????Lead from within yourself: The future holds many uncertainties and challenges. Listen to the inner compass that guides you in the right direction. Work on your inner peace and exercise your mindset to be more effective. Leaders of the future need to work on themselves before leading others.?
