During a recent conversation with a group of friends—most of whom have teenagers on applying to college—we kept coming back to one critical question: “What should our kids study to remain relevant in a world shaped by AI?” I recognized their anxiety because I’ve felt it too. Whenever I look at how quickly AI is advancing, I recall my own college years, when coding often meant writing C++ on paper before carefully typing it into a lab computer. Back then, I learned HTML, ASP, and .NET—new technologies that would eventually shape a decade of web development. It’s now clear that 2030 will be the next major milestone: AI will be at scale, likely propelled by Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and those who have the right blend of analytical, creative, and systems-thinking skills will thrive in this new era.

Before I share my take on the Future of Jobs; I want to recommend you to download World Economic Forum’s January 7, 2025 “Future of Jobs” report, a 290-page deep dive that underscores how our professional landscape is changing. The document forecasts key emerging roles and hints that today’s learners—and even those in the early stages of their careers—must be prepared to merge human ingenuity with ever-evolving AI capabilities. Yes, AI’s future is inevitable—but it’s not about machines replacing human work, it’s about harnessing AI as our co-pilot, enabling us to be faster, more innovative, and more efficient in everything we do.


Top 11 Emerging Roles and Careers in the AI Era

  • Creativity empowers us to envision solutions AI alone might not conceive—particularly those that require empathy, emotional intelligence, or artistic expression.

While job titles evolve, the fundamentals remain. STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) will continue to be relevant, but so will business, health sciences, and the humanities.

Core disciplines won’t disappear—they’ll transform. Whether it’s computer engineering, management, or healthcare, every field will weave AI into its fabric.

My advice to parents and early-career professionals is to embrace AI rather than fear it. Choose a path that resonates with your passion, then integrate AI into your learning and professional journey. When you love what you do, your motivation to innovate and adapt remains high—and in an era of rapid technological advancements, that will make all the difference.

So, let AI be your co-pilot, your accelerator, and your creative partner. Work alongside it, not against it. By doing so, you’ll position yourself—and the next generation—to thrive in the ever-evolving world of work. Very well said! the challenge for today’s kids is staying curious and creative in this fast-paced digital AI driven world. Yes Nuri, I agree with you ?? on this. Kids can choose any line of their passion. But to succeed, it needs to be blended with the right mix of AI to be successful in their careers. And most importantly, keep up with the latest technologies that might come up in their careers.
