The Future of Job Searching

The Future of Job Searching

One of the biggest challenges a young person has is the unending quest to pick a job or career to do for the rest of their lives.

It starts ridiculously early at 12 years old as they begin to think about their GCSE options as that would impact their A-Levels which in turn impacts the FE pathways available to them. A domino effect of choices which narrows their options.

Do you commit to something specific or keep it broad to ensure your options are left open.

On the other hand, just because you have specific qualifications, it doesn't mean you cannot re-train in another industry.

This is where apprenticeships are really handy actually.

So, at this stage you need to search for an opportunity.

What do you do?

  • Indeed
  • Get My First Job
  • CV Library

Great places for job searching, Indeed & CV Library are not setup for apprenticeship opportunities though. That leaves some of the more niche job searching sites such as GMFJ which advertise specific apprenticeship opportunities.

Unlike Indeed & CV Library, these niche apprenticeship sites do not scrape data from google, so you will not find every opportunity on the market on each site, you will need to do some research.

This eliminates the convenience you find with those bigger sites doing all of the compilation for you.

I recently caught up with Tom Keighley about his innotive new platform urfuture, a job app designed specifically to help young people understand which career is right for them and in turn support them into the perfect job.

My favourite feature on their app is the Job Matching service, whoich was completed 10,000 times in their first two months!

So there is a real demand!

They use behavioural science and machine learning to provide real data-led results for the young person to find their perfect role. This is then matched to availble opportunities making it easy to apply.

urfuture is also using TikTok to create content for young people to understand all about different jobs & industries in their street interviews. They are now the most viewed TikTok careers page so the rise of urfuture is definately on.

It feels really up to date, leaving the big guns in the industry to miss out on a rising opportunity.

urfuture is definitely one to watch.

The app seamlessly allows employers to reach out to candidates with great profiles as well as signposting closely match opportunities all in one place.

I am all for someone who comes into the market to turn things on its head, the apprenticeship job search has never been easy, and working out what career to go into is even harder.

Hopefully this can address some of those issues.

Sounds very interesting Tom Rogers as this is something that’s much needed. You might be interested in speaking to Sam Preston as he’s on a similar mission in terms of trying to inform more people about apprenticeships and the opportunities they present.

This app is a brilliant idea. Many young people may know they want to do an apprenticeship but don’t know what in! This gives them the opportunity to consider what they would like to do!
