THE FUTURE OF INTEROPERABLE VIDEO CONFERENCING

THE FUTURE OF INTEROPERABLE VIDEO CONFERENCING

Cisco, Microsoft Teams and Zoom Will Be Totally Interoperable by Mid-2020!

As video conferencing solutions proliferate, remote working continues to rise and the number of inter-company video conferences increases, a lack of system interoperability has become a major pain point for many users. Internally focused video conferences are less problematic, as everyone is familiar with their system of choice. However, once companies begin to interact with each other, there’s a good chance they are using different VC providers. That means multiple independent accounts, no central system and a need to hop from one provider to another throughout the day.

All this frustration could soon become a thing of the past, as Microsoft and Cisco announced recently that video interoperability will be available between Microsoft Teams and Webex Meetings and devices. What’s more, Microsoft has also announced it will support interoperability with Zoom. For the end user, this means that all these platforms will work together seamlessly. It’s a move that makes strong business sense for both Microsoft and Cisco and safeguards against any potential new disruptors.

from user experience perspective it will be same native regardless of platform.

When an MTR receives a meeting invite, it will look like any other Teams Meeting invite, except it will have a small Zoom logo in the top right. All users need to do it press the Join button. What will happen in the background is that the MTR will open up a Microsoft Edge Chromium client, using WebRTC technologies and join the Zoom meeting as a guest

Similarly Cisco and Zoom are also working to allow their respective room systems to directly join Microsoft Teams meetings.“This capability will be supported on a new generation of meeting room devices with embedded web technology.” Which is all current Microsoft Teams rooms and on the Cisco side their more modern Cisco Webex Rooms. Older Cisco rooms will be able to join Microsoft Teams Meetings via Cisco’s forthcoming CVI service.

Microsoft also says they plan to support this type of meeting join for other vendors in the future. lets see what more vendors will come it.

So In Shot if you are on Microsoft Side Story, you are good to go.
