The Future of GlobalWIN is Bright!
I recently chaired my last board meeting as Chairwoman of the GlobalWIN .? It allows me to reflect on the incredible work we’ve accomplished as I conclude my two-year term.?
Over the last two years, I’ve had a front-row seat in fulfilling the vision set out by GlobalWIN cofounders Helen Milby and Melika Carroll , doing both fun and important things to uplift women on Capitol Hill and in the innovation policy sector.? Ladies, we hope we continue to make you proud!
With the passionate engagement and support of the GlobalWIN Board, we’ve accomplished much to ensure the future success of GlobalWIN, engage the next generation of GlobalWIN leaders, support women Members of Congress, and create opportunities to expand both our networks and minds.
What I’m Most Proud Of:
Financial Health: GlobalWIN’s financial health is strong.? Thank you to the companies and trade associations that have consistently invested in GlobalWIN over the years.? We would not exist but for your advocating for us during uncertain economic times!? Over the last two years, we have welcomed more than 60 NEW member companies who believe in our mission.? As stewards of your investment, we take our responsibility seriously and have created processes for continued financial longevity.
Governance: Governance was a central theme of my tenure given direction by our Board to “future-proof” the organization for the long term.? A special thank you to Jennifer Curley , our Governance Chair.? With her leadership, we committed to the serious work of creating the governance committee, updating the organization’s by-laws, restructuring the GlobalWIN board from a donor board to a governing board, and creating the Advisory Council. Importantly, the Governance Committee has allowed us to “look under the hood” of GlobalWIN’s operations, finances, and programming.? I challenge all organizations to do so.? The experience only furthered my pride in GlobalWIN!
Domestic and International Engagement, Congressional Staff Delegations:? We proudly put the “global” in GlobalWIN by hosting international congressional staff delegations.? Over the last two years, we’ve traveled to France and England to meet with government officials to discuss technology policy AND the importance of gender equity. These are not mutually exclusive.? Our intentional engagement with the embassy community in Washington continues to create unique opportunities for GlobalWIN women.? Thank you, Allison O'Brien and Helen Milby ! We’ve also traveled across technology hubs in the United States, including Austin, Miami, New York, and San Francisco.? These trips allow tech policy leaders to get out of Washington and understand how international and state actors affect policymaking in Washington.
Advisory Council: This year, we launched the inaugural GlobalWIN Advisory Council, a forum for GlobalWIN women to play an active role in GlobalWIN’s growth and future. There’s no shortage of women leaders in GlobalWIN and we are committed to ensuring our members can lean in and help shape the future of the organization. There’s no better leader for this effort than the incomparable Keenan Austin Reed !? And I’m so excited that CTA’s own India Herdman serves on this integral council.
Meet the Member Series: Too often, as women in policy, we fight to sit at tables where we’re the only ones.? The formal and informal dinner clubs, lunch groups, and networks in Washington are often male-dominated with only a few women, if any, invited to the table.? With GlobalWIN, we have begun setting our own table with inclusivity always in mind.? The GlobalWIN Meet the Members Dinner Series launched in 2023 to connect Congresswomen from both sides of the aisle with GlobalWIN women.? To date, we’ve hosted dinners with members who represent some of the most prominent and influential companies in the U.S. and abroad and celebrated women’s leadership in the 118th Congress. In 2023 alone, we hosted dinners with Reps. Jen Kiggans, Hillary Scholten, Nikki Budzinski, Jen McClellan, Ashley Hinson, Sharice Davids, Susie Lee, Stephanie Bice, Marianette Miller-Meeks, and Young Kim.

Professional Development: What distinguishes GlobalWIN is our commitment to women's professional and personal development in public policy, on the Hill and off.? GlobalWIN programming focuses on professional headshots, speaker and media training, golf instruction, “How I Got Here” forums centered on career advancement, rocking your LinkedIn profile, and personal finance.? We provide women with actionable and tangible tools as they navigate Washington.?
We do none of this alone.?
To the GlobalWIN Board, thank you for your confidence in me.? You challenged me.? You made me a better leader. Keenan Austin Reed , Jennifer Curley , Ashleigh de la Torre , Aiken Hackett , Mica Evans Hider , Alethia Jackson , Natalie Joubert , Rosalyn Kumar , Nicole Mortier, Amy Murphy , Allison O'Brien , Katie Oppenheim , Sydney Paul , Cinnamon Rogers , Hollyn Schuemann , Kristin Smith , and Tonya Williams .
The GlobalWIN team, past and present, is stellar and has made my role as chair fun and impactful.? Thank you, Helen Milby , Quinn Needham , and Andrea Mietus !? Tizzy Brown , you are missed!? Thank you for your work advancing GlobalWIN! And I’m so excited to welcome Angeli Chawla to the GlobalWIN family.?
As for the future, I couldn’t be more bullish about GlobalWIN under the leadership of incoming Chair Nicole Mortier.? I can’t wait to watch you work and leave your legacy on an organization we both love dearly. I’m happy to have a front-row seat as I continue on the Board.
I would also like to thank GlobalWIN’s honorary Co-Chairs Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Congresswomen Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), and Young Kim (CA-40). More than checking a box, GlobalWIN’s honorary co-chairs remain active members of the GlobalWIN network.?
Finally, I’m indebted to the Consumer Technology Association for both investing in me and in GlobalWIN as I’ve led the organization.? We’ve created an incredible partnership that continues even though my time as chair ends.
GlobalWIN remains a powerful network of capable, talented, and driven women making a difference in the innovation policy space. As we build, we show our commitment through action to ensuring the next generation of women policy leaders have access, resources, and networks to succeed.
The future is bright.
