General-purpose technologies have always accelerated the rate of industrial production and innovation and have also replaced many labor-intensive jobs.?
No technology yet has advanced enough to precisely simulate the functioning of the complex human brain and human conscience. So far, every artificial intelligence application built has been to gather, organise, label, store, retrieve and analyze data to understand trends to best predict and control future outcomes; trigger alerts and suggest precautions and to take actions based on the analysis and predictions.
So much of human intelligence, interactions, and decisions are derived and driven from intuition, emotions, reflection and morality. No amount of neural networks can embody these traits of human intelligence inside a well-trained AI system of multiple ML frameworks yet, unless advanced AI systems have access to large amounts of data on brain functions.
Imagine a future where technologies like Neuralink - devices getting embedded into human body/brain to gain access to human thought processes and brain response to varied situations and feeding every bit of this data into AI systems that can derive patterns out of it, are the living reality. Either that’s a pretty compromising or extremely exciting future!
The more and more data sets are made available to AI systems, the better they get at handling complex situations, increasing the use cases that we can apply AI to. Imagine if these AI systems are provided with large compute capabilities along with access to unlimited data sets. This isn’t a future that’s far away, if not an already emerging reality.

One of the reasons why some intellects are emphasising on regulatory frameworks around AI is to ensure that down the line these AI systems don’t turn out to be a shot in our own foot. Without regulations around the kind of data sets that should be accessible to AI systems, we are headed towards a future of extreme social engineering, where our choices, feelings and ideas will be influenced by a set of algorithms that are biased and whose narratives are controlled by few oligarchs!
P.S: As compelling as it sounds, this argument is not #ChatGPT’s response to a Prompt

1 年great point in perspective Harsha..but "no one can stop an idea whose time has come" ...it just storms through and the same people, the "us", who caution, are the ones who build it ...
