The Future of Fundraising 03/12/23

This Friday, we saw Silicon Valley Bank collapse. Many fundraisers may not have SVB on their radar, but if you have donors who work in the startup, biotech, or high-tech industries, they do. What happened in 48 hours was the largest bank failure since The Great Recession, which could cause significant issues throughout the economy in the days and weeks ahead. This weekend, companies are uncertain about how to make payroll, brand-name stocks like Roku are down, and there are even concerns that individuals with more than $250k in assets will begin a run on other banks. 

In times of greatest need, fundraisers are in a unique position to leverage their networks and use their relationships to offer support, provide assistance and communicate kindness in the hardest times. These are the moments when fundraisers can empathize first and fundraise second and, in my experience, people never forget kindness. Please consider reaching out to your donors to offer your support. They likely won’t forget it.

Fundraising’s Lowered Expectations For 2023

Nearly two-thirds of direct response fundraising consultants said their nonprofit clients met or exceeded projections for 2022. However, an even greater number said the results fell short of 2021’s outcomes and nearly half said their clients have lowered expectations even more for 2023.
