The African Development Bank Group's latest (February 2024 edition) Macroeconomic Performance and Outlook (MEO) report forecasts that Africa will host eleven of the world's 20 fastest-growing economies in 2024. This report is proof that Africa no longer plays the world’s underdog.

The publication provides African policymakers, African and global investors, researchers, and other development partners with an up-to-date, evidence-based assessment of Africa’s recent macroeconomic performance and short-to-medium-term outlook amid dynamic global economic developments.?

The continent's overall real GDP growth is projected to average 3.8% in 2024 and 4.2% in 2025, surpassing global averages. Key countries like Niger, Senegal, and Rwanda are expected to lead with robust growth rates. Despite global and regional challenges, 15 African nations have achieved output expansions of over 5%. The report emphasizes the importance of larger financing pools and policy interventions for sustained growth.

It also underscored the continent's resilience, driven by economic diversification, strategic investments, and rising consumption. Recommendations include fostering economic integration, climate-proofing agriculture, and pursuing long-term financing for sustainable development. To enable faster and more sustainable growth, it will require addressing inflation through monetary policy, fiscal consolidation, and stable exchange rates. Read more here.
