The Beginnings of an Unconventional Path

Hello, dear reader! Here's a glimpse into my world. I'm a 19-year-old, soon to be 20 on May 11th, 2024, living with my family in Tarlton, South Africa, a cozy town about an hour and a half from Johannesburg.

The Early Hustle - Photography and Web Development

My entrepreneurial spirit sparked at 13 when I started Shutterup Filming, a photography venture. This early experience was enjoyable but also taught me the challenges of time and travel, especially relying on my mom for transport. This led me to delve into web development. Necessity is the mother of invention, right? So, when I needed a website for my business and found platforms like Squarespace and Wix expensive, I turned to HTML and CSS, creating a site and hosting it on Netlify for free. And just like that, I became a web developer.

Expanding Horizons - Fiverr and Social Media Marketing

My journey didn't stop there. I ventured into Fiverr, offering web development services and soon expanded into social media marketing. It was a learning curve, realizing that breaking even in sales often meant a loss, so I refocused on honing my marketing skills.

The 2020 Pivot - Software Development and Self-Discovery

Then came 2020, the year of global upheaval. Amidst the boredom of lockdown, I landed a software development job at a renowned South African company. Three months later, I completed a major project but realized a crucial fact: I'm not cut out for working under someone.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling - Freelance Marketing and AI Exploration

This revelation steered me towards freelance marketing and web development, but I soon hit what's known as the glass ceiling. I needed more, something to break through this barrier. That's when I dived into the world of Artificial Intelligence. Remember, this was before Chat GPT, so it was all about Reinforcement Learning and complex math. AI became not just a field of study but also a tool for my school projects.

Navigating Changes - Email Marketing and Strategic Partnerships

2021 brought another twist. Apple's iOS update hindered Facebook's tracking abilities, significantly impacting my marketing ventures. It was time to pivot. I discovered a valuable resource on Fiverr—a provider who could supply leads. With this, I ventured into email marketing, using Lemlist to launch personalized campaigns, initially targeting real estate companies. This new path led me to a wealthy individual, and our partnership, or rather, my role as a contractor, opened new doors.

The Balancing Act - Entrepreneurship and Education

In 2022, balancing this work with my final school year, I delved into mental health and business literature, notably impacted by "How to Win Friends and Influence People." Despite my entrepreneurial pursuits, academics took a back seat, leading me to forgo the traditional university route.

A New Chapter - Working with a Business Tycoon

Early 2023 marked another significant change. The same wealthy businessman offered me an opportunity to work on various projects and live at his house / office. This experience was eye-opening and Im incredibly blessed for the privilege I lad to live with millionaires, but reaffirmed my belief: I'm not built for conventional employment.

Redefining AI and Virtual Assistance

By June, I was ready for my next venture. In August I bought the domain Sonyc.io, initially starting as a rapid development company, eventually evolving into AI project planning and consulting, focusing on AI Consulting, Virtual Assistants, and CX consulting.

And here we are today. I'm on a mission to redefine virtual assistants and our use of AI. My newsletter will explore the latest in AI, discussing how we can leverage this technology to enhance our happiness, productivity, and free up time for what truly matters.
