Future Farmers of America: What you need to know about the impacts of COVID-19
Despite COVID’s multi-faceted impacts on our society, we have NOT seen food rationing during these unusual times. Please join me today in THANKING our FARMERS, RANCHERS and AGRICULTURAL PROFESSIONALS for keeping us supplied in the foods we eat and the nourishment we so value even more nowadays.
You may be unaware, but THIS is County Fair season. A time when young Future Farmers of America (FFA) normally show and sell their livestock at the local County Fair. These animals range from rabbits and chickens to pigs and cows. FFA youth would be selling the animals they’ve been raising to cover their costs, hopefully make a profit and then invest In their purchase of NEXT year’s animal raising project.
However, with the CA shutdown, there are NO County Fairs at which to sell these animals!
If you search for your local County Fair, you can help in several ways:
1. You can buy an animal by yourself or gather a group of your friends/family to invest together. This animal can be butchered for you and delivered as designated.
2. You can “bump bid”, by donating a given amount of money to support the FFA youth in the costs of raising their animals
In this way, we can show our appreciation to those who supply our food needs as well as those who keep our grocery stores stocked.
THANK you to America’s FARMERS, RANCHERS and AGRICULTURAL PROFESSIONALS for all you do daily to keep us fed!
