The Culture of AI-First Startups: A Vision of the Future
Artificial intelligence has been disrupting the way we live and work for some time now, but in the startup industry, AI is king. The culture within the AI startup market is “AI First,” where the first instinct is to use autonomous AI agents as the first method to get a job done. Automating everything has become a standard approach for the industry. This trend is also driving the industry toward fully remote work. In this article, we will explore the roles of the three members of a typical AI-first startup team, how they work together, and what we can expect from the industry in the years to come.
The Three Key Roles in an AI-First Startup
CEO: The Visionary Leader
The CEO is the visionary leader of the company. They drive growth, establish the company’s vision and strategy, and lead public-facing marketing efforts. In an AI-first company, the CEO may also be involved in engineering and hands-on coding. While the CEO will occasionally represent the company in public, most of the digital marketing and sales functions will be handled by AI agents that may replicate their likeness. The CEO must have a solid understanding of AI technology and how it can benefit their business.
Product Leader: Working with AI Agents
The Product Leader works closely with AI agents to collaborate with customers and the team to construct a roadmap, drive development and delivery of the product, and refine and iterate as needed. The Product Leader must have a deep understanding of the technology and be able to work closely with the AI agents to ensure that the product meets the needs of the market.

Operation Leader: Managing the AI Agents
The Operations Leader is responsible for managing marketing and sales automation, finance, supply chain, and legal functions. They are responsible for company-wide AI agents and generate a single source of reporting. The Operations Leader ensures smooth operations across all functional areas of the company. This role requires an understanding of AI technology, as well as the ability to manage and optimize AI agents.
The Future of AI-First Startups
We expect to see more and more AI-first startups emerging in the coming years. We predict that by the end of this year, a three-person team consisting of a CEO, Product Leader, and Operations Leader will form, and it will hit its stride in 3–5 years. This is just the start of the journey, and we expect to see fully-autonomous companies that may not even have humans at the helm.

1 年Hi Dominic Banguis love your content! :) I'm currently in the process as well of adapting Ai to my business. But I'm curious as to your definition of an Ai agent. Are we talking about people like admin people who are trained to prompt engineering? Or we're talking about Ai as an agent itself, independent.
