As the coronavirus continues to terrorize people around the world, more and more people are making the shift to online communication and e-learning. Companies that can operate remotely are now allowing their employees to work from home. Universities and colleges are holding their classes in voice calls instead of in lecture halls. And technology is being praised as the saviour of the world during this time of crisis. But the truth is, this was not always the case.
In fact, before the coronavirus took over the world, technology was shunned by many people. Holding online classes instead of lectures was unthinkable by many university professors and instructors. Working from home was a privilege reserved only for the highest-ranking managers and supervisors. And individuals that preferred working by themselves in isolation weren’t people that practiced ‘social distancing’, they were labelled as outcasts or anti-social. What we are seeing now, has always existed for many years. It is only now during this time of need, that all these behaviours have become acceptable.
Because of the coronavirus, a shift is beginning to take place in society. People are starting to accept what was unacceptable before. Traditional ways of doing things are becoming obsolete and replaced by more modern methods. And if this continues, the need for online education such as e-learning platforms will steadily grow as the demand for remote collaboration rises amidst this pandemic.
As this shift continues to take place, it won’t be long before society operates on a completely remote basis. Here’s what the future holds for e-learning and online tools in 2020.
How Social Conditioning Prevents Humans From Engaging In E-Learning
The concept of e-learning or online education has existed since the beginning of the internet. With the creation of an online network that allows anyone to connect to anyone in the world, it opened up numerous possibilities for humans to interact with one another.
The problem was that not everyone approved of this revolutionary new way of doing things. People that grew up in schools and learned by interacting with classmates and a teacher believed that their kids should do the same as well. The older generations traditional beliefs of how they did things in the past, influenced the norms we see today in society. But because of the coronavirus, suddenly all these norms are being challenged. Gathering together in a small classroom is no longer acceptable – it’s a health hazard. Hosting online lectures is now considered a new, innovative way of providing education, instead of a distraction. Everything that we’ve become accustomed to has suddenly changed.
This shift in beliefs means that a shift in desires will occur as well. Now, instead of people seeking out physical spaces for their needs, they have the option to use virtual spaces as well. The coronavirus has created a need for e-learning and virtual spaces, giving this industry an opportunity to grow even larger as the years go by.
Online Collaboration Tools As A Replacement For Face To Face Interaction
Communication today is mainly done online rather than in person. With the rise of technology and smartphones, people these days are interacting less with each other, but more frequently online.
You see examples of this in everyday life. How many people do you walk past each day that have their phone in their hands? Better yet – how many people do YOU walk past each day, and not even realize because your eyeballs are glued to a screen?
This is an example of how people’s behaviour in society has changed. Back before smartphones were invented, a lot fewer people spent their time browsing social media sites like Facebook or Instagram. Instead, they valued face to face interaction and talking to one another in person, to the point that parents would even scold their children for browsing the internet at the dinner table.
But times have changed. Today, most of our communication is done through online means – with 85% of people communicating via email, and 62% communicating through social media sites. And as technology advances and more communication apps are developed, these statistics are only going to get higher.
How The Coronavirus Is Revolutionizing Society As A Whole
Because of advances in technology, many people are starting to realize the potential it has to offer and taking advantage of opportunities that arise. More and more people are dropping out of traditional education institutions like universities and colleges, and pursuing a different path. They’re beginning to realize that in today’s modern world, there are other opportunities to allow them to make a living besides a 9-5 job.
They don’t have to go to school to become educated in a particular field. People these days can learn to become anything by simply typing their questions into Google. If they want to become a copywriter, they can go on YouTube and learn how to get started. Or if they want to become a digital marketing guru, there are many online courses that teach that information as well. They are starting to realize that school isn’t the only resource available to educate themselves. By investing in themselves and developing skills, they can control their own future.
These opportunities have always been available to us. But because of social conditioning or the fear of making our parents mad, we do not dare pursue these different paths. But now, because of the impact of the coronavirus, suddenly this social conditioning no longer exists. People can’t go to school anymore, and if they want to continue to learn, they have to do it virtually. In fact, the only options that are available now are those that involve the virtual world like e-learning and using online tools.
The irony of the coronavirus is how it has limited people from interacting with one another physically, but opened up a whole new world of opportunities virtually. And as the next few years go by, more and more people will realize the opportunities available to them.
The Future Of E-Learning And Virtual Spaces In 2020
This means that industries like e-learning and virtual classrooms are in a prime position to grow exponentially. Parents whose children are forced to stay at home and attend online classes are starting to realize how much more efficient e-learning is. They don’t have to pack their lunches, drive them to school, pick them up or make sure they’re okay. Everything’s done online and at their fingerprints from the safety of their home.
Employees that are working remotely realize these benefits as well. All of a sudden, they don’t have to wake up a few hours early just to get to work. They don’t have to dress up, do their makeup, take a shower or perform any other morning rituals that take up time. They can simply roll out of bed in their pyjamas and begin their day – literally.
Opportunities like these are possible because of online collaboration tools that allow people to communicate virtually. For messaging other people, there are platforms like Slack and Discord. People who require a live video feed for training or to hold meetings can turn to stream services like Twitch or YouTube. And tasks that require one to capture their screen can be done with recording software like Loom.
A good example is how Team Dan Lok uses these tools on a daily basis. As our team is located all over the world, many of our team members keep in touch using online tools like Slack and ClickUp. These tools make it possible for a global organization to thrive and is a prime example of how companies can leverage technology and e-learning in their businesses.
The Hidden Truth That Many 9-5 Employees Will Soon Come To Realize
With so many employees currently working remotely, it poses an interesting question:
What will happen to these employees’ working conditions once the coronavirus blows over?
Once things settle down, will these employees return to their offices? Or will they be allowed to continue working remotely, seeing as how they’re already doing it? For companies and bosses that are adamant about having their employees in an office, they may want to rethink their rules and regulations.
These people are having the time of their lives working from home. They don’t have to get up early, deal with rush hour traffic or get interrupted by their coworkers. All of a sudden, they are now exposed to the possibility of working from home. They’re having a taste of what the good life is like. And they are not going to want to go back.
In fact, most 9-5 are going to realize a hidden truth they have been kept unaware of for so long. And that is, there is no difference working from home and working in an office. Assuming that productivity is still the same, they’re getting their jobs done and everything is running smoothly – given the opportunity to choose, which one do you think most employees would pick?
Of course, they are going to choose the option that is most convenient for them. And for most of them, working from home is going to be their new norm, unless their boss tells them no.
And as a boss, saying no is a very bad idea.
How Denying Employees The Option To Work From Home Will Turn Them Into Freelancers
Picture this scenario:
One of your employees is working from home and enjoying himself. He’s switching between browsing YouTube videos and inputting data into an Excel spreadsheet. Suddenly, he gets a message from his boss saying:
“Since a vaccine for the coronavirus has been discovered, all employees are expected to come into work starting next week.”
All of a sudden, his work from home lifestyle has come to an end. But he’s not going to want to let it go. He’s going to start thinking – “Hey, I can do my job perfectly fine from home. Maybe I should ask my boss if I can continue to work this way.”
So he sends a message to his boss, only for it to be denied. Now, all his hopes have sunk. He’s forced to go back to waking up early, going through rush hour traffic and putting on a mask when he arrives at the office.
That is until he realizes the truth.
“Wait a minute. I can do this job from anywhere I want. The only reason my boss is saying ‘No working from home!’, is because he’s old school. Why don’t I just find another company to work for, that does allow its employees to work remotely?”
But then this employee has another brilliant idea:
“Wait a minute. I don’t even need a boss! I can simply do data entry for any company I want! I’ll become a freelancer and offer this as a service – now I’ll never have to go back to working in an office again!”
Suddenly, this employee has turned into an entrepreneur. Instead of working for someone else, he’s running his own business, doing data entry as a freelancer. He’s realized what opportunities are possible and leveraged them to take control of his own life.
Why Most Freelancers And Entrepreneurs Fail To Become Successful
And that’s exactly what freelancers and entrepreneurs do. They offer a service to the marketplace in exchange for money. In this example, this employee would be offering his data entry skills to the marketplace instead of working at a job.
But the problem is that data entry is a saturated job. Most companies these days don’t even use employees to do data entry – there are software and automation that handles it all automatically. If this employee were to try to become a data entry freelancer, he would not be able to find a lot of work.
This is the main reason why most employees who quit their job to become an entrepreneur do not succeed. They think that they can simply become an entrepreneur by starting a business and everything will be fine. But in reality, unless they’ve started a business before, they have no idea what to do. They don’t have a valuable skill or service to offer to the marketplace, and as a result, give up after just a few months.
However, there is a type of skill that is in high demand, unsaturated, and something anyone can do regardless of what the economy is going through. These are called High-Income Skills.
High-Income Skills Allow You To Become Your Own Work From Home Boss
A High-Income Skill is a skill that you bring to the marketplace in exchange for money. High-Income Skills pay you based on the value you bring to the market. And the more valuable your skill is, the more money you make. The definition of a High-Income Skill is as follows:
A skill that generates you AED 10,000 or more a month
Pays you based on the value you bring to the marketplace, not the opinion of your boss
Increases in income as you get better at it
One example of a High-Income Skill is the skill of closing. Closing is a skill that focuses on getting prospects to say yes and buy into an offer. Unlike traditional sales methods, closing does not use aggressive, pushy tactics. You ask questions to find out your customer needs and pain points, and from there simply lead the prospect to a close. Closing is valuable because you help business owners make more sales. And more sales for a company means more revenue. That’s why people who possess the skill of closing are paid so well because they are the rainmakers for these companies.
In fact, many of my students are making a full-time income working from home simply by leveraging their High-Income Skills. They are living life on their own terms – setting their own schedules, working from anywhere they want in the world, and don’t have to answer to anyone but themselves. They don’t have to go to work, listen to their boss yell at them and be told what to do – they are their own boss.
Learn The High-Income Skill of Closing From A Virtual Classroom
With the coronavirus affecting so many countries around the world, people are forced to make changes. Companies are allowing their employees to work from home, and people who originally shunned e-learning, such as parents and university professors, are beginning to see just how valuable technology is.
As regulations and lockdowns continue until this global pandemic is under control, the need for virtual spaces and online tools will grow. People will look toward e-learning as a way to educate themselves, and online tools to collaborate and communicate with their peers. This is because technology has become so advanced that everything they need is accessible at their fingertips. All they need is a connection to the online world.
This is the biggest difference between successful entrepreneurs and employees feeling stuck in their 9-5 job. Entrepreneurs realize that they don’t have to work for a boss or company in order to earn a living. They can simply learn a valuable skill that they can exchange to the marketplace and get paid for it. These are the kind of people that will never have to worry about a new deadly disease, the economy collapsing or their company going bankrupt. They have the opportunity to work with anyone from anywhere around the world. And what they have to offer will be valuable regardless of what the economy is going through.
