The Future of Driving
I must have been around ten years old, pressed against the high-back black cloth of a navy blue Volvo station wagon's seats when I felt on top of the world, basking in the comforting knowledge that I was in a car that had the acronym 'SIPS' plastered across each window pane.
What's SIPS you ask? The line of text under those four letters would read "Side Impact Protection System". Volvo's at that time were supposedly the safest cars money could buy. You can imagine my elation at that fact that mum and dad cared so much about our well-being that only the 'safest car in the world' would do.
Yup. That's what it was. It had nothing to do with the fact that it was an affordable, spacious piece of cr... I mean, car.
In the last 20-odd years since we sold our safety-mobile though, I've only ever met two people that drove a Volvo.
Despite the obvious novelty of seeing a Volvo on the roads around here, the brand does seem to be something of a media superstar of late what with all the 'Car Play' and 'Project Re:Brief' it's been getting (cough cough... not to mention it's biggest flop, 'My Volvo').
"What Volvo has conjured up now is pure genius! #autonomousdriving #futureofdriving"
