Advantages and disadvantages of building integrated photovoltaics
Advantages: The advantages of building integrated photovoltaics are as follows:
01. BIPV enables buildings to generate electricity on their own.
Therefore, buildings and their occupants will not rely on power suppliers to provide electricity.
02. BIPV panels provide excellent and pleasing aesthetics for the exterior of buildings.
03. Wide range of applications. BIPV can be installed on the exterior walls, roofs, skylights, and windows of buildings.
04. BIPV power generation does not harm the environment. Therefore, it is also an environmentally friendly alternative to power generation.
05. BIPV, replacing traditional building materials, helps to save material costs.
06. If fully utilized according to the design lifespan, it is also a cheap alternative to traditional solar panels and building materials.
07. It protects the occupants of buildings from various weather conditions such as rain, snow, cold, high temperatures, strong winds, and thunderstorms.
08. BIPV serves as the insulation layer for buildings. BIPV panels prevent excess heat from entering the building.
Disadvantages: The drawbacks of building photovoltaic integration are as follows:
01. Compared to traditional solar panels, BIPV has a higher initial cost. This makes it less popular in some parts of the world.
02. BIPV is not applicable to already constructed buildings.
03. The installation of BIPV is relatively complex and the labor cost is high.
