The Future of Digital Marketing

Everyone is talking about the Metaverse and NFTs. Today we are going to dive in and talk about them as well as artificial intelligence and machine learning, what they are and some things to look out for in the future for digital marketers.

What is the metaverse?

The metaverse is a digital version of a virtual reality where people can connect.

In the podcast Plain English with Derek Thompson and Kevin Rose, they mention how the metaverse is an extended version where people can connect online and have access that they may not have in the physical world. Another point that I found was interesting in the podcast was that Derek mentions the metaverse is already existing, as we are on zoom, twitch, and have our online identities separate from the physical world. Humans today have a life already incorporated into this internet world. The metaverse could just be a clever rebrand of virtual reality.

I think in the next five years the metaverse will be very popular as there will be improvements with our technology and essentially, we will be able to do the exact same thing that we do in our physical world today making it feel extremely realistic.


NFTs

NFTS stands for non-fungible tokens. Thompson explains this as unique digital collectables. ?For example, this could be digital art, a digital recording of a song and anything you considered a collectable that you have technical proof of owning. What makes NFTs so unique is that it allows a person to create one of something on a blockchain on the internet.

According to Agency Vista “With more NFTs becoming available, artists and creators will need to get their product in front of their ideal target audience.” ?A way digital marketers could help those people is to have a SEO strategy for an NFT project to look at common keywords that your target audience uses. In the next 5 years, digital marketers will be doing this.


What are AI and ML?

A great way to learn about AI and ML are through this free course on LinkedIn Learning. There are two things to know about, General AI and Functional AI. General artificial intelligence means that machines will be self-aware. Functional AI can do a task that it was built to do, do it fast, and improve over time. Machine learning is the tool that can help improve prospect targeting, respond to inquiries faster, determine action plans, and qualify leads. According to IBM, “Machine learning focuses on the use of data and algorithms to imitate the way that humans learn, gradually improving its accuracy.”


Current applications for AI and ML?

You may have heard of the Amazon Go stores. Amazon uses AI to detect when someone picks something up and that they are charged for that item. They also built specific machine learning algorithms, use cameras and sensors to accomplish this. Amazon is working to use AI and ML for everything by making it easier for the customer.


Prediction for digital marketers using AI and ML five years from now

I believe that in the future for digital marketers using AL and ML five years from now, companies will rely on machines and AI to create content for people based on what they like as it can track what people’s interests are. This will help digital marketers as they won’t have to spend lots of time on creating content but on the downside it could take away someone’s job. We shall see, only time will tell.
