The future of Construction - 3D

It’s no surprise that 3D printing has impacted the construction industry in recent years. Even though early developments of this form of construction have been underway since 1950, the most recent version, the second generation technology, is what has been the most successful. Additive construction, Autonomous Robotic Construction System (ARCS), Large scale Additive Manufacturing (LSAM), or Freeform construction (FC), are subgroups of this form of construction. Here are some things we learnt when we started exploring this topic.?

Even though the initial and final steps are similar in both conventional and 3D construction printing, they differ in the actual building construction process. A few topics of comparison are:

So how does this actually work?

This process is very similar to 3D printing objects but done on a massive scale. The building sketch plan is the input, and the material used for printing is a concrete mix. The concrete is mixed in large-scale tanks and is fed to the printer through pipes.?

Some notable benefits of the 3D printed house:

  • Low cost
  • Less time for construction
  • Relatively no material wastage
  • Complex or complicated structures can be built easily
  • Controls carbon emissions
  • More sustainable

We know that robotics and automation engineering is going to be the future, perhaps 3D construction printing will be the future of the ICI industry.?
