Future Clients! Look For These Aspects In Your Freelance Writer

Future Clients! Look For These Aspects In Your Freelance Writer

Yes, so this newsletter is not for freelancers.

Yes, this is not where I will give tips on becoming a better writer (person, which is more important). Rather, I would like to address the companies or agencies looking to hire talent through LinkedIn or other platforms. But the more I think about it, the more I realize that this surely is about freelancers as well!

So, before I start this Sunday morning newsletter, let me give you some updates about CJ Digitals and me.

  • We started the AWESOME ACTIVITY last week, and so far, it's going A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Only a handful of people know about it, and whoever knows is absolutely loving it. I cannot wait to share it with all of you!
  • We lost two clients last week. My writers did their best, but somehow things did not work out in our favor -- just a reminder to everyone out there -- such things happen!
  • We onboarded a new client at CJ Digitals - the initial work has been going great. The client is supportive and gives us the space to explore the possibilities to improve their business.
  • I intend to release a whole new freelance gig list by next week -- let's see if I get time to do that! (It will have 1000+ freelance gigs... ssshhh!)
  • Three of my connections who participated in my sessions got advance payments, two got their first international clients, and one got their very first freelancing project!! Couldn't be happier for them!
  • Under 'Viraj Bolta Hai,' we finally started conducting Advance Digital Marketing sessions, and surprisingly, 17 people registered for the same!

Now that I have shared my week's update with all of you let me come to the topic of this newsletter.

If you are looking to hire some talents from LinkedIn, there are a couple of things that you should be looking at before making the final decision. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to hire a couple of great talents through this medium, but I also had a stroke of hard luck where 'so-called' professional writers fooled me. Yes, fooled me! You know who you are, and you know I don't forget!

So, when you hire someone for your content or marketing-related needs, please consider the following:

  • Do they have a byline or proof of their ghostwriting work? If yes, ask multiple cross-questions as to when they started this particular project -- what were the challenges they faced! How did they resolve those issues? Check the vibes of their response!
  • When you ask for a sample, are they reacting positively or immediately running for money? I am not saying to assign them an unpaid sample. No! Never! But learn if they have a problem-solving attitude or a money-making mind. There is no harm if they are looking to make money! Hell, why all we here? To make money, right? But this should not be the sole objective of their professional career!
  • Are they presenting you with relevant work samples? Or you are asking for a Hot Coffee, and they are serving you a Hot Tea that, too, is without Parle-G? See and learn the relevance of the sample submissions.
  • What kind of content do you find on their social media platforms? Are they silent players or someone who only shares irrelevant pictures just to gain engagement or only comments on others' posts and not sharing some valuable content through their feed? See, there is no harm in doing any of the above - just understand if that is what you are looking for in someone who would be hired to solve your content and marketing-related needs.

There are some amazing writers here on LinkedIn who will help your business grow. Just make sure that you choose the relevant person for your current/future needs. And to those freelancers who fall under the above bracket, check if there is a possibility to upscale your freelancing game!

If you are someone who is looking to hire some freelancers, get in touch with me, and I will connect you with the right person!

If you are someone who is still facing issues converting clients, get in touch with me, and I will try to help you there as well.

If you are someone who wishes to buy me a coffee -- get one for me from here :D

Chalta huun!! Sunday he! Have to take papa's new car for a wash! Ye sahi he, right? They are the ones who drive it, and I am the one who has to take it on a wash!

Until tomorrow. :D
