In a recent episode of The Coptimizer Podcast, I had the unique opportunity to converse with my youngest guest to date, Jasur Talipov . At just 18 years old, Talipov has already made significant strides in the field of law enforcement advocacy through his nonprofit organization and podcast, Trust The Badge. His insights, drawn from both his personal experiences and interviews with law enforcement professionals, provide a fresh perspective on the future of policing. To say interviews and conversations like this give me hope for the future is an understatement, and this is coming from an optimist!
Early Interest and Unique Perspective
Talipov’s curiosity-driven dive into policing began in 2022, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic started to subside. Volunteering at the Altamonte Springs Police Department in Florida, he was driven by a desire to serve his community. This role offered him a front-row seat, physically and metaphorically, to the challenges and perceptions faced by law enforcement officers, particularly in the wake of the George Floyd incident.
"I realized they’re just humans like us. They’re not superheroes," Talipov shared, recounting his interactions with officers during his volunteer stint. Observing the varied public reactions to police presence—from fear to fascination—fueled his determination to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.
The Birth of "Trust the Badge"
Talipov’s experiences led to the creation of "Trust the Badge," a nonprofit podcast aimed at building trust between law enforcement and the public. His motivation was twofold: to give law enforcement a voice and to promote understanding through dialogue.
In a world where many adults don't take the time to understand, this young man is leading by example.
In his podcast, Talipov has interviewed a diverse array of guests, including a Pennsylvania State Trooper, a former FBI agent, a US Congressman from Kentucky, and yes, even a fellow podcaster, me! His goal is to provide a platform for a wide range of perspectives, highlighting the complexities and nuances of policing across different regions and roles.
Challenges and Misconceptions
One of the recurring themes in Talipov’s discussions is the public’s misconceptions about the police, particularly regarding the use of force. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the context behind police actions, which are often scrutinized without a full grasp of the circumstances.

"Use of force is a big topic. People need to understand that in life-or-death situations, sometimes force is necessary," Talipov explains. He recounts a recent incident where an officer had to make a split-second decision to use deadly force against a knife-wielding assailant, highlighting the difficult choices officers face in such scenarios. Studying these incidents from a place of understanding before judging can lead to more empathy for all involved parties.
Learning from Experience
Talipov’s podcasting journey began with an interview with the Chief of Police at his local department, a nerve-wracking experience that taught him the importance of framing questions effectively. Over time, he has grown more comfortable and skilled in his role, aiming to expand his audience and guest list to include voices from all sides of the law enforcement debate. This Chief should be commended for making the time to engage with his young community member and making him feel heard. The positive ripples from interactions like this will travel far and wide.
Jasur aspires to engage with anyone interested in developing a higher level of knowledge about police and how they operate, including First Amendment auditors, defund the police advocates, and even ACAB (All Cops Are Bastards) protesters, striving for a balanced and comprehensive dialogue. Talipov’s approach underscores the importance of critical thinking and the willingness to understand differing viewpoints.
The Path Forward
Looking ahead, Talipov plans to study political science at the University of Florida, with aspirations to become an attorney and continue his advocacy for law enforcement. His experiences in debate and his passion for research and critical thinking will undoubtedly serve him well in this pursuit. I was excited to hear about his passion for debate because it is becoming a lost skill in today's discourse, mostly because of how social media operates. Another reason for hope!
Reflecting on his podcast and nonprofit work, Talipov advises police departments to leverage social media to share their perspectives and engage with the community. "If you can’t beat it, you’ve got to use it," he says, highlighting the power of social media in shaping public perceptions and fostering trust.
Wrap Up
Jasur’s journey is a testament to the impact that young, passionate individuals can have on complex social issues. His commitment to bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community, coupled with his drive to understand and address misconceptions, offers a promising outlook for the future of policing. Through "Trust the Badge," Talipov is giving law enforcement a voice and setting an example of how thoughtful dialogue and critical thinking can lead to meaningful change.
