The Future of AmCham in Singapore

My CEO message to AmCham Singapore members on 13 June 2023

Dear Members and Friends,

When I turned 50 years old last year, it felt like time sped up and started rushing by. That certainly seems to be the case for AmCham Singapore this year as we celebrate our 50th anniversary.

We began the new year with #BoundlessService commemorating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service with a beach clean-up followed by an #AmCham50Boundless kick-off with a packed house of members in the AmCham office. In March, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Ambassador Jonathan Kaplan observed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between AmCham Singapore and the U.S.-based National Center for APEC (NCAPEC) at our first Balestier event of the year symbolizing #BoundlessOpportunities for collaboration between the United States and Singapore.

The pace accelerated into the second quarter as we highlighted member companies who demonstrate the best of American business values through #BoundlessGiving at our 50th Annual General Meeting and?AmCham CARES ?event with guest-of-honor Singapore President Halimah Yacob. In May, we held our inaugural Regional Economic Conference?Multilateral Collaboration for #BoundlessGrowth ?with Minister for Transport S. Iswaran, Manu Bhalla, Alternate Senior Official for APEC at U.S. State Department and APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) members speaking to an audience from around the Asia Pacific region.

These are just a few highlights of our 50-year anniversary on top of the other nearly 100 member engagements so far this year that make AmCham Singapore so special. In addition to the celebrations, we are also reflecting upon the Chamber’s past accomplishments and asking members what we can do better. Many thanks to all of you who gave us feedback through the member survey. You gave us a net promoter score of 41 (“very good” based on benchmarks) for recommending AmCham to a friend and 94% of respondents gave us a positive rating on our effectiveness in achieving the AmCham Singapore Mission.* Over 90% of respondents believed that AmCham is effective in delivering across our strategic pillars of Advocacy, Business Insights and Connections. Members particularly appreciate AmCham Singapore as a platform for convening and connecting.

These insights from the member survey along with interviews with past AmCham Chairs, business leaders, and Singapore stakeholders were included in the white paper launched today at the Balestier event with Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.?The Future of AmCham in Singapore ?is a walk down memory lane with thoughts on how AmCham can continue to be of service and have impact in the next 50 years.?

On behalf of AmCham members, in the next 50 years we will continue to:

• Amplify the contributions of AmCham member companies?by driving thought leadership and advocacy, highlighting member company contributions to the community, and connecting members with peers and industry leaders.?
• Strengthen and extend partnerships to further American business interests and values?by deepening our relationship with the U.S. Embassy, partnering with local organizations, and engaging with other foreign chambers and diplomatic missions in Singapore.?
• Advance a regional perspective?by supporting Singapore’s reputation as a regional and international hub, bringing global and regional leaders to Singapore, and co-creating regional thought leadership.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement over the years. While much has changed over the last 50 years, what has not changed is AmCham’s focus on delivering value for members, the business community and Singapore as our host country.
