THE FUTURE OF AI & HUMANITY: PREFACING AND REALIGNING THE BALANCE
?????? ???????????? ??????’?? ??????: ???????????????? ?????? ?????????? ???? ???? ????-???????????? ?????????? The shift to AI is well underway, and while there’s a lot of conversation about the impact on jobs and industries, we can’t forget something equally important: how we learn, adapt, and evolve in the process. There’s an old framework in training that goes:
“See One, Do One, Teach One”, however, that’s not enough anymore.
As the world around us changes, we need to add a step: “Learn One.” In this AI-driven future, learning isn’t just about skill-building, it’s about understanding how and why things change, then using those insights to transform how we approach the world.
It’s about taking the time to reflect after we’ve seen, done, and taught, asking ourselves: What did I learn? How does this change my perspective? How do I adapt?
???????????????????? ???? ????????????: ?????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???? ???????????? Let’s take retail as an example. Digital transformation is already reshaping the way stores operate. Grocery chains like Kroger are using digital price tags to update product prices remotely in real time. This is a smart, efficient way to run operations, yet it opens the door to bigger questions. How do we, as consumers, adapt to these changes?
Imagine a future where your grocery prices change not just based on demand, but on who you are...
Dynamic pricing could mean that my prices are different from yours, based on shopping patterns, personal profiles, or even location.
The impact on consumer trust could be profound, yet the potential for innovation and tailored experiences could also be a game-changer.
We will always need those who innovate to push the boundaries of what is fair or applicable. However, as businesses integrate these AI-driven changes, they must learn from those same outcomes.
Just as we adapt, businesses need to ask: How do these innovations affect customers? What insights do they reveal? What’s the ethical impact? This is where “Learn One” comes in:
Companies shouldn't just apply these new tools, they must actively reflect on their effects and learn from them to continuously improve the customer experience. Those that do so with transparency will maintain the trust of their employees and customers.
We see this happening in many ways within the market and the industry where even companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS) who are making big moves that impact over 350,000 employees with a move to bring them all back into the office in January of 2025.
So what's the answer what can we do? How should businesses change to promote a better path forward? priorities, culture, business goals?
I personally think is starts here: ?????????? ????????????
???????????? ???????? ?? ???????? ??????????: ???????????????? ?????????? ???????????? ?????? ???????????????? Let’s apply this concept of “Learn One” to the workplace. Many organizations are focused on creating safe spaces, but to truly innovate and grow, they need to build brave spaces where people are encouraged to take "calculated, or some call it educated risks" and experiment. In such spaces, learning doesn’t stop with doing; it’s an ongoing cycle where employees are asked not just to act, but to learn from those actions and then improve. For example, the traditional method of “See One, Do One, Teach One” is fine as a starting point, yet it misses a crucial element: learning from what worked and what didn’t.
By incorporating reflection on the “Learn One” step, after each action, you give people the space to grow, to reframe their experiences, and to apply those insights moving forward.
This is essential in a world where AI and automation are quickly taking over routine tasks.
What remains unique to humans is our ability to adapt, empathize, and think critically, all are skills that can’t be replicated by machines.
This reminds me of something I said recently:

???????? ?????? ???? ????????????????? ?????? ???????? ???? ???? ?????? ?????????? ?????????????????? Looking at the broader picture, it’s clear that we need to approach this digital transformation not just as a technical shift, but as an opportunity for growth. AI can handle a lot of tasks, analyzing data, automating processes, and even mimicking certain decision-making patterns, and yet it can’t reflect on the broader implications of its actions.
This also reminds me of the post I wrote about how start-ups, businesses, and entrepreneurs... End up being sort of on a Pirates journey
Those who pass through the storm, through the doubts, market battles, and failures, emerge stronger. ?????? ???????? ??????’???? ???? ????, ????’?? ???????? ???? ??????. ?????? ?????? ???? ??????????, ???????? ?????? ??????????'?? ?????????? ???? ?????????? ?????? ?????????????????????? ?????????????? ????????????, ???? ???????? ?????????? ?????? ???? ?????????????? ???????? ????????????, ???????? ????????????????, ?????? ???????? ???????????? ???? ????????????????.
- Kinda sounds like the same journey most enterprises feel now from attempting to bring in GenAI... I mean someone has to say it.. no?
That’s where we come in. As humans, our ability to learn from past experiences, question outcomes, and adjust course is what makes us irreplaceable.
I mean we can't say this isn't happening, in some regards when we have colleges already looking at bringing in AI to start coaching and training students. The time to act is now, however, this also should push us to work in fast-moving teams that can take action now.
"To move at the speed of now is to blend human intuition with intelligent automation, harnessing real-time data to drive clarity, alignment, and innovation... all while staying true to core values and integrity."- Doug Shannon
Take a look at the below, which is an example of a college doing this yet also the student does have human coaches who are also professors who will help and jump in when needed to support the broader needs.
Dr. Emmett Brown said in Back to the Future: “Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one.”
It’s in our hands to learn from how AI integrates into our lives and to make informed choices about how we use it to shape the world we want to live in. We have the tools around AI, GenAI, Automation, IoT, digital systems, new pricing models, yet in the end, it’s up to us to apply them or for what purpose. Depending on your why or that of your company you should always look at your history, and what background you or your company come from. Look deep to understand the why, the progress made, and how you came to get to where you are now.. was it luck sheer grit, or was there a cultural aspect or learned understanding that you brought into it? What's your why...
Maybe you brought it in with you or learned through doing it on your own, maybe you follow your own style of ACT model? Here is mine:
?????? ?????????? ????????????: ???????????????????? ???? ?? ???????? ?????? ???????????? In closing, it’s important to remember that our future, while rapidly advancing, and again, is not yet written. We have the power to shape it. But to do so, we must continually learn, not just by seeing and doing, but by reflecting on what we’ve learned and how we can use that knowledge moving forward.
Although learning is usually seen as a 'past-tense thing'. You can take a proactive approach when you embed historical factors and reimaginings to older issues, then extrapolate those solutions that were built out of it.
Here is an example of how you can use history to look ahead. It's something I am seeing and I think you do as well.

Whether it’s in how we approach AI/GenAI, adapt to new technologies, or drive value in our personal and professional lives, the “Learn One” step ensures that we’re not just participants in this shift, but active shapers of our own futures. This leads us to the end of this and to what many people I meet ask me. They ask Doug Shannon 'Why do you, post, put out newsletters, and speak globally'. I tell pretty much everyone the same thing. First is for my kids, so I can show i'm doing something, I'm making a difference and I don't charge anyone for it. Secondly, the research and effort I put into all of this, in the end just makes me better, a better, technologist, speaker, and overall professional.
At the end of the day:
