The tech world is currently experiencing a real revolution in the development of artificial intelligence. However, as with any new technology, questions arise about its profitability and real business impact. Let's take a look at what leading figures in the tech industry think about it.
Skepticism and investment
According to the Wall Street Journal, there is a significant increase in capital expenditures on infrastructure for generative AI. This raises the question: will these investments pay off? Is this another bubble?
Despite skepticism, venture capital investments in AI-related startups continue to grow. This shows that investors see the potential in this technology.
The view of tech titans
Michael Dell draws parallels between today's skepticism about AI and the doubts about the Internet in its early days: “Back then, no one could fully comprehend how much the web would change our lives, and now AI is on the same path. Yes, it may be difficult to measure the immediate impact, but if history has taught us anything, it is that disruptive technologies take time to show their true impact.”
Jensen Huang, speaking at the Goldman Sachs conference, emphasized that AI is not just about software, it is something much more: “For the first time, we will create skills that complement humans. Generative AI is not just a tool, it is a skill.” Huang also predicts that in the future, every programmer will have a digital companion that will work with them around the clock.
Gartner's hypercycle and prospects
According to the Gartner Hypercycle, generative AI is currently in a “disillusionment trough”. This means that the technology will start bringing real value over the next 3-5 years.

Goldman Sachs' IT spending survey shows that while enterprises are still cautious about investing in AI in the short term, the long-term outlook looks promising:
- After 12 months, 84% of CIOs indicated that less than 5% of their budgets will be allocated to products related to generative AI.
- However, in 3 years, 97% of CIOs intend to spend money on generative AI. 80% expect 1-15% of their IT budget to be allocated to AI, and 17% expect more than 15% of their IT budget to be allocated to AI.
Conclusion
Despite the current skepticism and questions about profitability, technology industry leaders remain optimistic about the future of AI in enterprise IT. They see AI's potential not just as a new tool, but as a fundamental change in the way we work and create value.
