PART 1.5: MODEL OF GAME - OFFENSIVE MODEL - POSITIONAL ATTACK (PART 3)

Today I am going to explain the offensive concept of triangles and some procedures in a 4-0 positional attack. It is important to remember the offensive concepts related to the positional attack system 3-1 or 4-0 based on: individual basics, dualities, triangles, procedures and rules.

Triangles using 4-0 system

Remember that we defined the set of 3 or offensive triangles, as the duality of the game where we add a 3rd player, giving more variants to the game. Decision making is more complex than the dualities involved in being a 3rd player and therefore there are many more factors to consider.

Before we start listing some triangles in a 4-0 system it is important to explain one concept: strong and weak side.

We can split the field in two sides and we can classify strong and weak side in two different ways: focusing on the ball or focusing on the defenders. How many offensive players we have in ball's site? or... In which side there are less defenders? All that questions are related to one of the most important concepts in futsal... domain of the space.

If you decided to play with the 4-0 positional attack system it is very important to understand that concept and work all the movements trying to attack the empty defensive space. Simplifying all we can say:

In a 4-0 positional attack system we can create space (=looking for empty spaces in the defensive system) or create superiorities (=movements from one side to the other)

Let me explain that concept using some offensive triangles:

  • Playing between lines:

The main goal is to invade the other side of the field trying to create an offensive triangle. That triangle could be created by two ways: forward jump or wing jump. We want to reduce the space between defensive line, attracting the defenders to the ball and creating space in two zones: in the other side and working the triangle behind the last defensive line. Let me explain that with a visual example:

In that movement we are overloading one side with 6 players, creating different spaces to attack. It is very common to use triangles in a 4-0 system as a way to initiate our positional attack, trying to attract the defenders.

  • Triangles after overloads: We can play two different overloads in the creation 4-0 zone: creation overload and sideline overload.

Example of creation overload:

Example of sideline overload:

After the overload we can create with a simple jump different kind of triangles. That overload attracts the defensive lines creating a lot of space behind.

In the pictures below we can observe two different triangles after an overload, one playing on the same side (reducing space) and the other with more distance and creating more space.

Once we have mastered the dualities ( set of 2) and triangles ( set of 3) , the next step is to work the tactical procedures with direct or indirect involvement of the 4 field players.

I have chosen 1 tactical procedures called "Circular Pattern", related to the 4-0 attack system, which I will now explain. Before that, let me note that in a 3-1 attack system we can work 3 tactical procedures called: "Static Forward", "Pattern Turn" and "Circular Pattern". We will talk next week about these procedures.

Circular pattern in a 4-0 attack system has the following characteristics :

? Work field amplitude

? Work between the lines game

? Modify the traditional 4-0 system and cause defensive mobility

? Generate high mobility in the players and space in behind defenders

The basic movements of the pattern are:

The main objective is to generate a rotation to convert a static positional attack to a very dynamic attack. This action should result in a defensive adjustment that we will use to attack with :

? Balls to pivot and continuations

? 1x1 situations wide

? Dualities on the wing

? Between lines game

That is enough for today. Next week I will talk about procedures in a 3-1 attack system and the concept called "Rules".

Weeks before, I have written 4 interesting articles trying to define an "Identity model". You can read it here:
