Furlough Leave

Unlike many car showrooms, since the 17th March 2020, the Lawgistics telephone lines have not stopped ringing and our email inbox has been full.
This may sound like a fantastic scenario to find yourself in whilst every other business is in an economic crisis but sadly the majority of calls are from dealers wanting to cull their workforce... and they are not holding a bundle of cash saying ‘I want you to work for me’ but waving a white flag and asking for help.
By the 19th we had assisted in over 100 redundancies and we knew the motor industry was in trouble. However, on the 20th the government threw us a lifeline... furlough leave.
Our legal team worked hard to get ahead of the game, knowing on Monday morning our helpline was going to be flooded with calls regarding furloughing employees.
On Monday the 23rd March at 9am we delivered 14,000 emails with guidance on how to inform employees about the government's new Job Retention Scheme including a FREE template letter.

Ironically, since that date, we are very pleased to have assisted in furloughing over 1000 employees, which although may seem negative to many, especially those who are going through this process right now, the future was looking much bleaker just 10 days ago.
I would like to share all we have learnt in those 10 days, maybe you already know the answers but if our updates can help one automotive business, it would bring me a moment of happiness in a dark time.
Please find our recent updates regarding furlough leave below, which include more template letters and answers to the most frequently asked questions.
