Funtastic Productivity
A few years ago, one wisdom was popular, “Work is not supposed to be fun, that’s why it’s called work.” People used to believe that if you’re having fun at work, you’re not productive enough.
However, researchers state that this is totally wrong. In my experience, team happiness increases productivity and by making your work environment a ‘happy place’, you can take care of your team and encourage them to get more done.
?Our brains need passion, play, and release at work.
They’re essential to keeping us emotionally connected and engaged. No one wants a boring office life.
But the question is how much fun should you have at work? Do you balance your productivity and fun? Many times, employers/managers worry about employees’ inappropriate smartphone/social media use, project deadlines, wasting time.
Which leads to our most favourite question - “How can we have fun at work while maximising our productivity?” Those days are gone when the performance of employees was measured only by the time spent sitting at your desk. Nowadays, performance is measured by outcomes and results. We shouldn’t forget ethics though.
Nevertheless, we have some basic ideas for you which can help you have fun at work while maintaining your productivity at peak.
- Make friends
- Watch or play sports together
- Celebrate fun days / birthdays / anniversaries
- Give personalised gifts/letters
- Have some ‘Nasta’ (snack) over tea
- Take some selfies in between work
- Decide and wear theme dress code
- Do some after-work activities
- Decorate your workspace
- Lunch together
You need to balance productivity and fun to be seen as a good employee. Here are some tips on how to do that.
- Put work first
- Don’t use company email for personal chats
- Have fun when appropriate!
With all that said, it’s important to have fun at work, and it’s even more important to be productive. In the end, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts which is ultimately satisfying on a personal level too!
So be productive and don’t miss out on small fun moments at work.
