Fundraising... why?

On the 17th September the RGB team will be embarking on a romp across 18 miles of hostile, unforgiving countryside.... we think it's really important for you to know why we would put ourselves through this.

It's because we feel domestic abuse is everyone's business... RGB Recruitment has teamed up with Splitz Support Service (charity no 1064764) to increase awareness of domestic abuse and help victims and survivors to get the help they need to live a safer life.?

Many of us have seen the media?headlines “ victims confined with their abusers”?and “60% increase in calls to domestic abuse helplines”?

?but???

?Did you know…? According to the Office of National Statistics almost 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men aged 16-59 will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime.?Most of us know more than six people therefore, it is highly likely that someone we know is or has experienced domestic abuse within their intimate relationships.?

A survivor’s story

?Every time I wanted to speak to my family or friends my partner used to say things like, Why don’t you do it later or I need you to help me with this ?and before I knew it months went by, when we used to speak every week. Later I found out they used to call me and he would say I was out, when I wasn’t.

Things got worse when my partner lost their job and I began paying my wages into their account to pay the bills. When my partner got another job, he said it was easier to control what we spent if it was all in one place. A place I didn’t have access too.?I had to beg for money to get a haircut or buy sanitary items. In the summer I met a friend by chance who I hadn’t seen for a long time. She asked how I was and I just broke down. She encouraged me to seek help and I rang Splitz.

?Just talking to someone helped me realise that domestic abuse takes many forms and that I had the power to change things. ??“I am beginning to feel like me again”
