Fundraising in a 'Bushfire year'?

Fundraising in a 'Bushfire year'

It's been an unforgettable start to 2020. With their devastating and wide-reaching impact, the Bushfires have captured not only the hearts and headlines of our nation, but of our world. The outpouring of generosity has been incredible.

It reminds me of the 2004 Tsunami, when I was working in International Aid & Development. It was a similar time of year (Boxing Day) and the event set the scene for funding in 2005. The outpouring of funding back then was like something never seen before. Donation spikes were unprecedented.

For anyone working in Tsunami related areas back then, fundraising was a dream job. For those not working on Tsunami related projects, it was a very tough year.

The struggle for those of you not working in a Bushfire impacted area, or on a Bushfire-related project this year, is going to be capturing the hearts of donors for your area of work. This is in no way to take away from the recovery our nation is facing. But while the Bushfires are happening, there are also children being diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease, parents needing support for children with Autism, schools short of technology equipment, scientific research that needs to continue, older people wanting to stay physically active, people of all ages struggling with mental health, social enterprises that have just launched and need to grow...the list could go on and on.

Mostly at the moment, I just want you to know that you're on my mind. And that we haven't forgotten 'the rest of you' at The Grants Hub. If you want strategic support specific to your organisation, feel free to contact our support team.

Today at The Grants Hub, we're focussing on some of our Top Grant Picks, which aren't for bushfire projects. As always, there are over 1,000 grants that you can search in our Grants Directory, and lots of new funding programs opening in this new year.

If you are looking for Bushfire funding, be sure to check our blog post.

It might be a tough year ahead, but we are with you.
