Funding your Graduate Degree

Funding your Graduate Degree

There are?a variety of opportunities?to help support you in funding your education. We work?closely with our Faculties, Departments, and external agencies to develop and promote competitive-based awards and scholarships, in addition to minimum funding, where applicable.?There are also bursaries available to support students who demonstrate?financial need, students with children, and students participating in academic or research travel.

Funding graduate school webinar

On October 27, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs hosted a webinar entitled?Funding your graduate education?for prospective students.

The webinar featured Heidi Mussar, Associate Director, Graduate Financial Aid and Awards sharing information about different types of funding, minimum funding for master’s and doctoral students, an overview of internal and external funding opportunities, such as bursaries, Graduate Research Studentships, TAs, RAs, federal and provincial scholarships, and the process of applying for and receiving additional funding.

The session was recorded for those unable to attend live.

We hope that we were able to provide you with some valuable information as you continue to research graduate studies and prepare your application.

Study and living costs

Graduate studies is a big financial commitment, and one that could impact your career path and subsequent earning potential. Graduate studies provides you with the opportunity to further your research and?develop your skills.

Waterloo's graduate tuition varies by program and is competitive among other top Canadian institutions. The?City of Waterloo?provides a vibrant background for your education, at a lower cost of living?than other major cities across the country.?

Tuition

Tuition and incidental fees can vary by program and estimated costs are?listed on our?graduate program pages.

  • no tuition deposit is required

Student Financial Services?has an Interactive Student Fee Estimator that will allow you to receive an estimate of your future tuition, incidental and residence fees. Use the Student Fee Estimator if:

  • you are applying for a study permit and need to pay fees in advance to show proof of payment as part of your study permit application
  • you are applying for an education loan

Student Financial Services?will post your?tuition fees* on?Quest?approximately one month before the beginning of each term.?They will also notify you by email at that time. New students?need to be matriculated?or made active in your program before your tuition can be posted.

Any applicable?funding will be first used to cover the cost of tuition, provided you have become "fees arranged" by completing the?Promissory Note?on Quest each term.

*Annual tuition increases are generally effective for?spring term.

Hi Krista, thanks for this post. This is very helpful. Do you know if the IDSA amount will be revised this year (Fall 2022 to Spring 2023 academic year)? Given the high inflation and unbelievable hike in rent in Waterloo, maybe the IDSA amount requires re-evaluation.?
