Chainguard Raises $140M in Series C Funding to Lead Open Source Security
Chainguard , co-founded by Kim Lewandowski , Matt Moore , Dan Lorenc , and Ville Aikas , has secured $140 million in a Series C round led by Redpoint Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and IVP. This funding elevates the company's valuation to $1.12 billion. Chainguard specializes in securing open source software supply chains, offering solutions like Chainguard Images.
CEO Dan Lorenc highlighted their mission to align developer and security priorities, stating, "We've shown our customers and the industry there is a better way." The funds will support product expansion and global market growth.
Lakera Locks Down $20M Series A to Guard GenAI Frontlines
Lakera , co-founded by David Haber , Matthias Kraft , and Mateo Rojas-Carulla , has secured $20 million in a Series A round led by Atomico, with participation from Citi Ventures and Dropbox. This funding boosts their total to $30 million, positioning Lakera to lead the real-time GenAI application security category. As Donald Tucker from Dropbox noted, "Lakera's team has extensive expertise and a deep understanding of the complex security challenges companies are facing with LLMs and Generative AI."
With 80% of enterprises expected to deploy GenAI soon, Lakera's technology safeguards against new vulnerabilities.
ZeroTier Secures $13.5M to Bolster Device Security Amid CrowdStrike Fallout
In the wake of the CrowdStrike update causing global cybersecurity disruptions, ZeroTier , a California-based startup, has secured $13.5 million in a Series A round led by Battery Ventures. Founded by Adam Ierymenko , ZeroTier specializes in software-defined networking (SDN) solutions, providing secure virtual networks for over 3 million devices worldwide.
As cybersecurity concerns mount, ZeroTier is enhancing protection for diverse devices, including routers and sensors. New CEO Andrew Gault is now focused on scaling the company's innovative solutions to address the urgent need for secure device connectivity in the digital age.
Credo AI Gains $21M to Advance Responsible AI Governance Solutions
Credo AI , known for its AI governance software, has gained $21 million in new funding from CrimsoNox Capital, Mozilla Ventures, and FPV Ventures, alongside existing investors such as Sands Capital. This latest round increases their total funding to $41.3 million. With the rise of global AI adoption and regulatory frameworks, Credo AI supports organizations in managing AI risks and compliance.
CEO Navrina Singh highlights the importance of responsible AI practices, "Governance is the key that unlocks the full potential of generative AI...". The funding will help expand leadership and strategic partnerships, including a recent collaboration with Databricks.

FiddleCube (YC W23) , founded by Neha Nupoor and Kaushik Srinivasan , launches on Y Combinator, offering a platform that simplifies the fine-tuning of custom LLMs. Key features include the ability to generate high-quality datasets quickly from raw data, reducing the manual effort in data preparation. FiddleCube also provides tools for synthetic data augmentation and regression testing, ensuring models are robust and reliable. The platform helps businesses save time and costs by efficiently managing dataset creation and enhancing model performance.
Moonglow Launches to Streamline Jupyter Notebook Integration with Cloud GPUs
Moonglow (YC S24) , founded by Leila C. and Trevor Chow , has launched on Y Combinator's summer batch, tackling a major pain point for machine learning researchers. Typically, scaling Jupyter notebook experiments requires cumbersome processes, from SSHing into remote machines to setting up environments. Moonglow simplifies this by connecting local Jupyter notebooks directly to cloud GPUs, such as H100s, with a single click. This solution automates the DevOps, allowing researchers to focus on their experiments rather than infrastructure headaches. Currently supporting VS Code and Runpod, Moonglow plans to expand to AWS, GCP, and other providers.
highlight.io Unveils New Features During Launch Week
highlight.io, the open-source, full-stack monitoring platform, is celebrating Launch Week with exciting updates.
On Day 1, they introduced a revamped Alert UI, designed by Julian Schneider, which now supports alerts from logs, traces, sessions, and errors, offering a comprehensive alerting solution.
Day 2 brought the official release of their Metrics Product, allowing users to create detailed dashboards for both engineering metrics and product analytics. This includes visualizing error rates and frontend performance, as well as tracking user engagement and click data. NIST Re-releases Dioptra: A Tool for Testing AI Model Risk
A bit different from our usual startup launches, but important nonetheless in this sector. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) , part of the U.S. Commerce Department, has re-released Dioptra, a modular, open-source tool designed to assess the risks of AI systems, particularly against malicious attacks like data poisoning. First introduced in 2022, Dioptra helps companies and government agencies evaluate the robustness of AI models by simulating adversarial attacks. This tool is part of a broader initiative, including President Biden's executive order on AI safety, aiming to standardize AI risk assessment and safety protocols. While Dioptra is a significant step forward, it currently only supports models that can be locally downloaded, excluding API-restricted models like OpenAI’s GPT-4o.
Synnax Showcases Platform for Hardware Control and Real-Time Data Processing
Synnax , part of the YC S24 batch, introduces a new platform designed for hardware control and real-time data processing. Founded by Emiliano Bonilla , Elham Islam , and Patrick Dotson , Synnax combines features of LabVIEW, Snowflake, and Grafana into a unified tool tailored for complex hardware operations. Emiliano Bonilla explains, "We built the database engine for Synnax from scratch...Existing solutions just don’t fit the hardware use case." The platform excels in managing sensor and actuator data, supporting applications like rocket engine control and manufacturing automation.

Airtable Acquires Dopt to Enhance AI-Driven Product Experiences
Dopt (acquired by Airtable) , a leading product adoption platform, has been acquired by Airtable to expand its AI capabilities. Founded by Alon Bartur , Dopt is renowned for providing developer-friendly tools that help companies like Superhuman, Productboard, and Reforge build personalized onboarding and in-product experiences. The acquisition aims to integrate Dopt's technology with Airtable's no-code platform, enabling more intuitive and AI-powered workflows.
"We’re excited to help build Airtable AI...By combining our experience building flexible AI-enabled tools with Airtable's platform we’re excited to help businesses solve their day-to-day problems more productively, creatively, and ambitiously." Bartur announced, highlighting the potential to make AI more accessible and effective for everyday business challenges. Dopt's services will be discontinued on August 15, 2024, as part of the transition.
ClickHouse and PeerDB Merge to Enhance Postgres Data Integration
ClickHouse has acquired PeerDB (YC S23) to integrate native Postgres Change Data Capture (CDC) support. This move aims to simplify data transfers from Postgres to ClickHouse, enhancing real-time analytics capabilities. PeerDB's Postgres CDC connector, which has outpaced other tools like Snowflake and BigQuery, will now power ClickPipes, ClickHouse’s native data integration engine.
Aaron Katz , CEO of ClickHouse, commented, “This acquisition aligns with our mission to offer advanced data analytics solutions. Integrating PeerDB’s CDC technology enables Postgres developers to expedite real-time data-driven applications.”
