Chainguard , co-founded by Kim Lewandowski , Matt Moore , Dan Lorenc , and Ville Aikas , has secured $140 million in a Series C round led by Redpoint Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and IVP. This funding elevates the company's valuation to $1.12 billion. Chainguard specializes in securing open source software supply chains, offering solutions like Chainguard Images.

CEO Dan Lorenc highlighted their mission to align developer and security priorities, stating, "We've shown our customers and the industry there is a better way." The funds will support product expansion and global market growth.

Lakera Locks Down $20M Series A to Guard GenAI Frontlines

Lakera , co-founded by David Haber , Matthias Kraft , and Mateo Rojas-Carulla , has secured $20 million in a Series A round led by Atomico, with participation from Citi Ventures and Dropbox. This funding boosts their total to $30 million, positioning Lakera to lead the real-time GenAI application security category. As Donald Tucker from Dropbox noted, "Lakera's team has extensive expertise and a deep understanding of the complex security challenges companies are facing with LLMs and Generative AI."

With 80% of enterprises expected to deploy GenAI soon, Lakera's technology safeguards against new vulnerabilities.

NIST Re-releases Dioptra: A Tool for Testing AI Model Risk

A bit different from our usual startup launches, but important nonetheless in this sector. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) , part of the U.S. Commerce Department, has re-released Dioptra, a modular, open-source tool designed to assess the risks of AI systems, particularly against malicious attacks like data poisoning. First introduced in 2022, Dioptra helps companies and government agencies evaluate the robustness of AI models by simulating adversarial attacks. This tool is part of a broader initiative, including President Biden's executive order on AI safety, aiming to standardize AI risk assessment and safety protocols. While Dioptra is a significant step forward, it currently only supports models that can be locally downloaded, excluding API-restricted models like OpenAI’s GPT-4o.

Airtable Acquires Dopt to Enhance AI-Driven Product Experiences

Dopt (acquired by Airtable) , a leading product adoption platform, has been acquired by Airtable to expand its AI capabilities. Founded by Alon Bartur , Dopt is renowned for providing developer-friendly tools that help companies like Superhuman, Productboard, and Reforge build personalized onboarding and in-product experiences. The acquisition aims to integrate Dopt's technology with Airtable's no-code platform, enabling more intuitive and AI-powered workflows.

"We’re excited to help build Airtable AI...By combining our experience building flexible AI-enabled tools with Airtable's platform we’re excited to help businesses solve their day-to-day problems more productively, creatively, and ambitiously." Bartur announced, highlighting the potential to make AI more accessible and effective for everyday business challenges. Dopt's services will be discontinued on August 15, 2024, as part of the transition.

ClickHouse and PeerDB Merge to Enhance Postgres Data Integration

ClickHouse has acquired PeerDB (YC S23) to integrate native Postgres Change Data Capture (CDC) support. This move aims to simplify data transfers from Postgres to ClickHouse, enhancing real-time analytics capabilities. PeerDB's Postgres CDC connector, which has outpaced other tools like Snowflake and BigQuery, will now power ClickPipes, ClickHouse’s native data integration engine.
