FundamentalVR & King's College London win Innovate UK grant to develop pioneering VR for surgical training.
We are really excited to announce that FundamentalVR have won a UK Government grant to expand our research and development in the use of immersive technology and haptic (sense of touch) simulations. Click here to see the project video.
Working in close collaboration with our colleagues at King’s College London, our two organisation have successfully secured the Innovate UK grant to support the development of innovative VR & haptic surgical training systems.
Our system will be launched later in 2018 as a low-cost simulation option for surgeons globally, bringing high quality, real feeling, accurate and effective simulations, to support better patient outcomes.
Richard Vincent, our co-founder said "This shows that Fundamental is recognised by key UK Government bodies for our world class simulation work and our research and innovation that takes centre stage in the Government’s Industrial Strategy. We are excited to receive this endorsement and support. "
Chris Scattergood, fellow co-founder commented "This research and innovation work with our partners will enable the demonstrative effectiveness of our solutions across a range of surgical disciplines. In turn this will provide the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of VR simulations, something that institutions and medical device companies have been waiting for ahead of investing at scale in this technology. This will help provide the confidence, capability and business case to support the next stage of this surgical education revolution"
The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund provides funding and support to UK businesses and researchers. The fund is part of the government’s £4.7 billion increase in research and development over 4 years.
