• Cargo tank cleaning procedures are the sequence of events that eventually allow any vessel to change from one grade to another.
• Check the size and dimension of cargo tanks and the preloading specification of the next nominated cargo.
• The specific nature of the cleaning process is in particular determined by the chemical and physical properties of the cargo being cleaned from, the type of coating inside the cargo tanks.
• The best cleaning operation totally depends how far to clean and determining whether each step of the cleaning process has been effective.
• In preparation most tank cleaning procedures are very similar because there are not that many different variables available to the vessels: 

a.    Fixed tank cleaning machines or portables (or both)

b.    Water or solvent for the pre-wash

c.     Cold water or hot water

d.    The reaction of the previous cargo(s) with the cargo tank coating

e.    Tank cleaning chemicals or not
