It is commonly acknowledged that facility management encompasses a vast array of facility services, the management of which may influence the relative success or relative failure of an organization's company. Long-term and day-to-day, an organisation relies on FM to manage its facilities resources, support services, and working environment to facilitate its core business.
Nonetheless, the nature and characteristics of organisations may also differ. Some organisations may place a strong emphasis on business strategy. While other businesses may focus only on their operational processes and short-term deliverables, we place a premium on both. Typically, the organisational goals change based on the business context. Environment and context have varying effects on the facilities & support services used by various organisations. Consequently, facilities and FM functions are prioritised differently relative to the primary operations of various organisations. Therefore, the function, role, scope, and priority of the FM function must be tailored to accommodate these contingencies.
It is essential to adapt the FM function to the specific nature and needs of the organization, which are influenced by the surrounding environment. Understanding the organization's requirements is the key to good FM, as evaluated by cost-effectiveness. With a clear knowledge, FM may relate to the main business by offering services that match and adapt to the real features, demands, and restrictions of a given organisation, as well as its changes. In contrast, a weak connection may result in incompatible FM practises that do not serve the main business to the greatest extent possible.
