A fun way to thank the Unsung Heroes of Damage Prevention
As National Safe Digging Month comes to a close this week, it was only fitting to have our #MovieMonday video feature the 2024 Minnesota Locate Rodeo.
We've said it once and we'll say it again: utility locators are the unsung heroes of damage prevention. Truly an occupation that experiences what some call "silent success", they are constantly working behind the scenes while receiving little recognition for their efforts.
Locate Rodeos provide a great opportunity to show appreciation to these essential workers while also letting them have some fun.
The 2024 Minnesota Locate Rodeo was put on by the Minnesota Common Ground Alliance and hosted by CenterPoint Energy .
Trident Solutions provided the trophies for this year's winners and our own graphic designer, Andrew Prins , designed the logo for event.
Competitors had 12 minutes to locate lines that were buried until several feet of class 5 gravel.
During the competition the weather was cold, the wind was gusting, sirens were blaring, and airplanes were roaring overhead! The setting couldn't be more fitting for a locator: dozens of distractions and under a tight deadline.
Locators were scored based on accuracy as well as efficiency.
There were over 30 competitors who endured the elements and vied to be champion. The top five finishers were:
1st?Place Krystal Ramler (989) USIC, LLC
2nd?Place Melissa Larson (980) USIC, LLC
3rd?Place Adam Marisette (976) USIC, LLC

4th?Place Tony Becklin (974) Xcel Energy
5th?Place Derek Kramer (973) USIC, LLC
Krystal Ramler will go on and represent Minnesota at the International Locate rodeo later this year in Missouri.
With so many of their locators in the top spots, USIC was awarded the "GOAT Trophy", a traveling trophy given to the company with strongest overall showing.
