Over the last few weeks, a number of my clients and I have been having a little fun injecting inspiration and motivation into our days.
With New Year energy waning and the terminally wet weather dragging on, even the most focused of us can find it hard to re-connect with our goals, get stuck in and find our work flow.
I am holding my hand up here because I counted myself in this group a few weeks ago!
So when Jess, David and Paula all came to me feeling distracted and low on go-getting energy, but with sizeable goals they wanted to achieve, rather than just giving?them actions to take, I also set them an entertaining task:
Make the ultimate motivation playlist.
I asked them to choose the most feel-good, uplifting, energy-inducing songs and compile a playlist that would spark their creativity, wake them up, and boost them into their days and during moments of struggle.
The idea was then to use this playlist to kick start their mornings and motivate them during tasks that felt tough to approach or deliver.
Now, firstly, this exercise caused a lot of hilarity as they admitted which type of songs might make the cut!
We had everything from Spice Girls' Spice Up Your Life, to the Top Gun theme tune, to Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger, and my personal favourite, MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This ??
But once their playlists were created and being used, more importantly, they were each surprised at how it helped change their feeling state and enabled them to focus and take action much more readily.
This simple exercise helped them find their groove (literally and metaphorically!)
So if you’re feeling a bit sluggish, finding it hard to concentrate and want a fun way to access your natural energy and drive as we wait for Spring to arrive, try creating your own ultimate motivation playlist.
At the very least, it will make your day feel a little better, but you might just find it seriously powers you forward!
And just in case you’re wondering, top of my own playlist is this (for anyone old enough to remember the awesome film that was Beverly Hills Cop!! ??)
