Fun, Food, and Friends: A Recap of Our Recent NDIS Participants Event!

At Help at Hand Support, we understand the vital importance of social connections in adding to the overall quality and richness of our participants’ lives. That’s why we recently hosted a fun-filled event for NDIS participants, and it was a blast!

The event concept was born out of an idea our staff had for getting NDIS participants together to create social connections, have something fun and maybe a little different to look forward to and to acknowledge our appreciation for them in a tangible way.

The sun was shining (albeit the wind could have been less energetic, so our balloons didn’t want to fly away!) and the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as participants from all walks of life came together. Here’s a glimpse into the day’s festivities:

Sizzling with Good Times:

What better way to bring people together than by having an epic sausage sizzle. If people didn’t notice our distinctive orange and black balloon display, the smell of the BBQ definitely let them know they were in the right spot! Having the event as a “Picnic in the Park” at lunchtime was a great opportunity to grab a bite, relax, and chat with fellow participants and our friendly support team.

Games Galore!

Laughter and cheers filled the air as participants got competitive (in the best way possible!) with some classic outdoor games. From beanbag tossing to lawn darts, there was something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of ability. It was a fantastic way to get active, have some fun, and bond with others.

Brain Games too:

For those that prefer to exercise their brains, we had a specially made Music Memory Card Game. The lively game session was a great way to challenge ourselves, talk about our favourite musicians, and enjoy some giggles. There were also Mandala colouring books and pencils available for those who preferred a more calming activity.

Building Connections:

Most importantly, the event provided a valuable opportunity for the NDIS participants who attended to connect with other members of the community.

Maggie* (*named changed for Privacy) commented that she loved attending the event, as usually after her weekly physiotherapy appointment on Wednesday, she would just go straight home and probably watch TV. “Getting outside and having somewhere new to go to, was different and really fun” she told us.

At Help at Hand Support, we’re committed to fostering a sense of community and belonging for all NDIS participants. This event was a fantastic example of that commitment in action.
